If America is number one in everything, then by definition that means we're also number 1 in being gay. There can be no competitors hence the hate for Boy George.

Correct. They call it - the new world, both continents - America, after the Latinized version of Florentine explorer Amerigo Vespucci's name. The earliest known use of the name America dates to 1507.

(Yes, 276 years later your country got independence in 1783 - and used "America" in its name. The revolutionaries even created a "Continental Congress" expecting that the entire continent would rush to join, pausing only for adulation and the occasional rapturous fainting incident. When that failed they tried invading Canada in 1775. That also failed. During the Paris peace talks, the American negotiators demanded all of Quebec as part of the war spoils. That also failed. In 1812 they tried another invasion, again expecting the local populace to support them. That failed too. America, or The Americas, is still the name of new world, regardless of what some pretentious revolutionaries pretended.)

The name "America" came to George Washington in a dream the night after he single handedly defeated the entire British army, navy, and air force with only his bowie knife and a small amount of chewing tobacco and a few rubber bands. Legend has it that in this dream an angel riding on the back of a bald eagle descended from the heavens and commanded George Washington to name his new country "America", which is a lost Hebrew word that translates in American to "Freedom".

Utah latest state to legalize medical pot, expand Medicaid

... Utah will be on the list of more than 30 states allowing patients legal access to medical marijuana after the plan maintained a vote lead in in Friday tabulations....

Missouri also passed a medical marijuana initiative in this midterm election. Michigan became the first Midwestern state to legalize recreational marijuana ...

Utah's approval of medical marijuana shows the state's residents can think for themselves despite opposition from powerful groups such as the Utah Chiefs of Police Association, Utah Medical Association and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which accounts for nearly two-thirds of Utah's population, said DJ Schanz, director of the group that put the proposition on the ballot.

"We're excited that these sick and ailing patients will finally be able to find relief without being criminalized in Utah," said Schanz, director of the Utah Patients Coalition. "This a big message that Utahns are compassionate people ... that people can think and vote autonomously."

With the Medicaid vote, Utah joins two other Republican-leaning states, Idaho and Nebraska, where voters also approved expanding the program under President Barack Obama's health care law....

The measure includes a sales tax increase that is expected to generate $90 million that will combine with $800 million in federal money to fund the expansion....
