Hundreds of kilometers from her home in the Arctic Circle, a large walrus has been causing trouble since taking a fancy to sunbathing on boats. That's a tad awkward as the vessels are on the smaller side, while Freya — at 700 kilograms — is a whole lotta mammal.
This is why we can't have nice things. I'm not going to second guess their terrible choice, but I would have been okay with it if they tried tranquilizer darting the assholes first.

I never knew that there are 2 subspecies of American bison.
Plains bison, smaller, is the one we're used to from Yellowstone National Park and scattered herds in western states and Canada.
"With a population in excess of 60 million in the late 18th century, the species was culled down to just 541 animals by 1889."
Wood bison, larger, once thought extinct "... in 1957 a relatively pure herd of about 200 was discovered in an isolated part of (northern Canada's) Wood Buffalo National Park ..."
"Among extant land animals in North America, the bison is the heaviest and the longest, and the second tallest after the moose."

The Aldergrove facility first closed Tuesday, with little to no notice provided to visitors. The zoo later released a statement saying it is working with Langley RCMP and the B.C. Conservation Officer Service to bring the wolves back to safety, noting the incident was “suspicious.”
“Most wolves are back in the care of our animal health and welfare team,” said the statement, posted Tuesday evening, noting staff are trying to track down a “small number of remaining wolves unaccounted for.”
The zoo, which has nine adult grey wolves and six cubs, has not confirmed how many escaped or remain unaccounted for.

Yeah, you noticed that, did you?
Finally, they've admitted that "at least one" wolf managed to escape zoo grounds. There's a good chance s/he'll head back to where the food is, but it could certainly be confusing for a zoo-raised wolf to suddenly find themself in a human neighborhood, in traffic, yada. I hope they find it soon.

The Greater Vancouver Zoo remained closed Wednesday, a day after several wolves were found outside their enclosure in what appeared to be an act of “malicious intent.”
... The zoo later released a statement saying it is working with Langley RCMP and the B.C. Conservation Officer Service to bring the wolves back to safety, noting the incident was “suspicious.” ...
Notice that they leave it vague as to whether they mean evil people or smart, evil wolves.
Wild wolf attacks on humans are very rare, approaching historically nonexistent. Idk what the numbers are for caged or escaped caged wolves. Regardless, this claim seems unsustainable:
... Zoo officials said there is no danger to the public and asked anyone who sees a wolf in the Greater Vancouver Zoo area to contact the number below....
I would probably keep children indoors despite the assurances. Otoh, I applaud the zoo's civic service in helping to control the feral and outdoor cat problem.

I haven't heard any comments from anybody who actually knows anything about wolves, but these wolves have never had to hunt or kill their own food. But they're still wolves, and they may get creative when the DoorDash delivery doesn't show up.
About an hour ago I was out on my porch basking in the afterglow of some fine Mr Natural and noticed a small (about 4 or 5 inches) lizard over on the edge of the porch. It didn't appear to be brimming with glistening sacs of poison and didn't act in a menacing manner. So I didn't stomp it.

You are a wise, benevolent and compassionate lizard stomper.
