Former President Donald Trump has been working the phones, personally pitching right-wing lawmakers on voting to make Rep. Kevin McCarthy, the Republican leader he has called “My Kevin,” the speaker of the House.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., the most outspoken far-right member of his conference, is publicly vouching for McCarthy. The California Republican has made private entreaties and public promises to win over his critics, including floating the impeachment of a member of President Joe Biden’s Cabinet.

And yet, McCarthy, who is toiling to become speaker next year when the GOP assumes the majority, has so far been unable to put down a mini-revolt on the right that threatens to imperil his bid for the top job....

They're asking for an arm, a leg and his ball sack. I can't see a scenario where he gives the members the ability to recall him at any time. Who'd want the job, especially with the nutjobs on the Republican side that would throw TrumperTantrums weekly. The next two
years oxygen would be sucked up.

I can see a scenario where the Never Kevin crowd burns down the house and some moderate gets the gig with democratic help. It would be the best for the country from a governing standpoint and set the wingnuts hair on fire like we'd never seen before.

Yeah, I don't see the end game of their "4D Chess" or whatever they think they're playing. Everybody in the House gets to vote for Speaker. The only way the majority party gets their guy in is for everyone to vote for them. I think they're just posturing and trying to get promises of moon-barking action like impeaching Fauci and putting Hunter Biden in public stocks. I think McCarthy should cut his deal with some Dems instead of the loons, who might not vote for him anyway.
