I don't know exactly how that would work, but ultimately the accusation was based on his representing California and falsely claiming Maryland residency, and Trump's apparent belief that that in itself is fraudulent.

If he's claiming Maryland residency for tax purposes and California residency for voting purposes, that also MIGHT create an issue . Regardless of the legal issues IMO it's sleazy to claim Maryland residency. A CA Sen should be 100% Californian and just take the tax hit.
