Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

:violin: Any idea why Dems are unanimously opposed to starting debate on the defense spending bill?

Ah. Only 5 Repugs jumped ship. Any other Congress and it would be unremarkable to have a few nonconformists.

Maybe they saw it as the fool's errand it was and didn't want to waste time and energy on a bill that wasn't going to get past the Senate much less the White House.

An offer seems to be on the table.

"Moderate Democrats Offer to Rescue House Speaker McCarthy
Nearly 100 Democrats are pushing Speaker Kevin McCarthy to join them on a compromise bill to avoid a government shutdown"

He will choose whichever option is most likely to keep him SINO. National interest has no weight here.

He'll probably get the speakership eventually, but he will also be diminished even more than he already is.

Zero legislation will be signed into law in the next two years amidst the government shutdowns which will accomplish nothing and eventually will reopen under some sort of continuing resolution that will ultimately cost the taxpayers more than not shutting down.

Then they'll blame the Democrats.

Not everyone is blaming the Democrats.

White House Taunts 'Worst Person' Matt Gaetz With A Well-Timed Meme
The extremist Florida congressman said he knows whom to blame if there's a government shutdown — and it's not Joe Biden.

... The meme originated in a 2018 story on Clickhole, a satirical website.

“Out of nowhere, the most loathsome person you’ve ever met in your whole life chimed into the argument with a completely valid and irrefutable point,” the original story says. “All you can do now is try to pick up the pieces, move on, and pray that this pompous moron never makes another great point ever again.” ...
 :---P
Dark Brandon must be running the White House account. 😂
Omg. Whoever is running the Dems social media lately is crushing it 🤣🤣🤣
Heartwarming: I have a faceapp version specifically made for Gaetz stories

GQP "strategy":
Extreme RWers blame SINO McCarthy.
Not quite as extreme RWer SINO McCarthy and his allies blame extreme RWers.

How can this not be good for Joltin' Joe and the Dems?

Putin: Compromises with rebels in order to stay in power and avert a Russian civil war.
SINO McCarthy: Compromises with rebels in order to gain power and avert a GQP civil war.
Putin: Waits 2 months then crashes a plane carrying rebel leadership, assumes control of the suddenly leaderless rebels.
SINO McCarthy: Is a cupcake, metaphorically. Allows rebels to remain as powerful as ever, suffers a GQP civil war. Opps.

Same as it ever was...

It's really trump's shutdown. He gave the marching orders on truth apparently. He wants the investigations defunded, which at this point wouldn't stop the prosecutions anyways.

He's once again doubling down on stupid. IIRC he was responsible for the longest shutdown ever with a Republican Congress for border wall funding and finally folded.

Then he lost the House.

Well put. The saddest thing about the GQP's America-hating avarice for power is that all of this has been well known for a long time. “Voodoo Economics,” as Daddy Shrub said.
... Americans deserve to know how we’ve been manipulated, and by whom. Sadly, although I and others (it’s even detailed on Wikipedia!) have been calling out Wanniski’s scheme for decades, none of the national media have ever seriously examined this 40+ year GOP strategy.
Yep.
... Hopefully this time Democratic politicians and our media will, finally, call the GOP out on Wanniski’s and Reagan’s Two Santa Clauses scam and put an end to it once and for all.
Why am I pessimistic? Oh, that's right, Democratic politicians and our media are also beholden to: Feed the uber-wealthy, nothing else matters.

Comments:
Will people ever wise up to this bait and switch game? I have my doubts, and the GQP will continue to run this scam once they achieve their goal of complete power without public accountability.
Nixon the crook kicked off the lying and as he disgraced his party and was leaving, Wanniski apparently decided to pick-up where he left off. It groomed Republican generations to come to accept this crazy magical-thinking. Other conservatives who didn't actually buy that trickle-down crap decided to accept all the lies as the way to beat and own the libs.

As much as we are amazed by Republican acceptance of Trump's lying, this shows us how decades of lies got them to where they are in 2023 with an orange albatross hanging around their party's neck. He is their "colossal" idiotic ideas personified---here comes Santa Claus!
Great minds . . .
When our mainstream press is owned by oligarchs one cannot expect them to reveal the secrets of the continued wealth gap in this country. Wikipedia owned by Google, Fox by Rupert Murdoch, CNN is a publicly traded company (whose) Biggest shareholder is ATT. See more here. https://projects.iq.harvard.edu/futureo ... -ownership

Beware the media. It has an agenda, and that is not to serve the people. They serve their owners and shareholders interests. Thank you for not being the mainstream press and pointing out that Reaganomics is evil. So many people I grew up with embraced it, and were Democrats converted, went and made tons of money, and loved that he had justified greed and a ME, ME, ME attitude. I could not believe they all fell for it. Later some admitted their mistakes. Their mistakes are ones we all suffer for. We are watching this played out again. It is really frightening.

McCarthy's House may be out stupiding itself.

The bonus is if there's a shutdown there's no impeachment hearings. 🤣

I read something the other day that's stuck with me. Don't remember where it came from or who said it. It was in the yahoo news home page. But the writeer/speaker described the Republican MO pretty well in my view. It's "we want you to be angry. We want you to be miserable. And we want you to vote for us. We'll make it worse and blame the other side."

Four days before a shutdown.

Taking care of business.

Republican-controlled House committee to hold hearing on Chicago crime at FOP headquarters
 They've never gotten over Obama being from Chicago.

Taking care of business or not taking care of business, it's so hard to keep track:

Kevin McCarthy Wanted Bob Menendez To Resign Until Someone Mentioned George Santos
The House speaker wanted the New Jersey senator to resign, but he changed his mind after someone asked why he hadn't asked Santos to do the same.

 SINO the Worm. :obscene-birdiered:

Ftr, I think they should both resign . . . and wimpy SINO should join them, just because.
