Getting personal?

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -6.15

Now
-4.25, -5.13

I don't know that I've changed much, but I probably answered with more "strongly's" last time. I've likely developed more of a "yeah, wha-tever" attitude than a "Hell yes/no"

O Really,

Thank you for your detailed response. I know I shouldn’t generalize like that.

Feel free to share what you think liberalism is about.
Speaking for me only:

The first cornerstone is a belief in a country of laws, with the top authority being the Constitution. I believe the Constitution was written to be a living document, to be applied and interpreted within an evolving world. This contrasts with the "strict constructionists" who think every word now is the same as every word when originally written. However, the living document idea is founded on the fact that the Constitution itself provides a means for its own changes, through amendments.

I believe in all parts of the First Amendment.

I wish there wasn't a "Second Amendment" but since there is, I believe it should be interpreted and applied with reason and not to mean that everybody can carry around any firearm they want wherever and whenever.

I believe we are a multi-cultural and multi-racial society and no one should be left out. I think laws and regulations should be created for the better good of the society as a whole.

I think government's job is to protect citizens, protect the nation itself, provide services for the improvement and development of the citizens, and create laws enhancing a peaceful and orderly society.

Comments on specific issues later.

Post-election, I see a lot of angry people on social media declaring that they are disowning friends and even family members who voted for Trump. Others are urging people to not invite Trump supporters to Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners.

I think that’s downright sad.

I have lots of friends and family members who are liberal (they support Obama, Biden, Obama, etc.) and I would never in a million years disown or abandon them. I think putting politics ahead of family and friends is pretty disgraceful.

What are your thoughts on this?
Joe Biden must cancel Thanksgiving. MAGA and non-MAGA cannot break bread.

I was an only child, and don't have much extended family, given that half of what I would have live in England, so I never quite understood the part about "they're family so you have to put up with their rude cruelty bullying loud drunkeness and now Trumpiness". I see frequently questions to "Dear Abby" or whoever that go, "My aunt ruins every social occasion. She overdrinks and gets mean, and usually pukes on the table. But I don't want to hurt her feelings by not inviting her to..." Seriously? Why would you want to invite her? Why do you care about her feelings? If you want to give her a chance, sit her down and say "Auntie, you can't handle your drinks, you're rude and mean to my family and guests, and if you can't/won't behave we're not going to invite you anymore."

One interesting part of the article, though, was that with all reasons to be so, MAGA people are still angry. I'd have a "no politics" rule, and nope, not bringing your MAGA rage into my house. I'd go all Eddie Murphy "This is MY house...get the fuck out!"
