Well duh, it's the battle flag of slavers and banner of segregationists. You wanna argue with Ken Burns?

Nope, some of them are just ignorant or fools.
Is that not imposing your will and beliefs on others; that is, you believe everyone should believe as you do?
Nope, just on government. The racists, ignoramuses and fools are and should be free to display their racism, ignorance and foolishness.

Cop out, you pay taxes to SC. Retirees and transplants aren't exempt from civic duty.
Did you lift a finger against Idaho's Aryan Nations? I'd guess not. I did.
and secondly, the rebel, or Confederate, flag has never been a thorn in my side as it has liberal-minded Southerners. Correct, it doesn't have to fly at the Capitol, but it has been there a few years and no Black person, to my knowledge, has been forced into slavery, forced to the back of the bus, or been lynched because of it being there.
It's the most recognizable symbol of the hatred and discrimination that persists.
My point is that some half-baked kid that worshipped racism and carried a rebel flag, killed 9 Black folks in their place of worship and suddenly the mad rush is on to snatch or yank down any thing that resembles a rebel flag.
Again, just government endorsement.

You speak with forked tongue. You speak of tolerance and equality, yet those who differ in their opinions of the rebel flag are white trash to you....
You speak with illiterate tongue. Tolerance doesn't mean being nice to racists and I've posted nothing against their equal rights.
This government endorsing the slaver flag is about as silly as what southern liberals scream about the 10 Commandments being posted in a city/county owned building.

The rush to buy slaver flags at jacked up prices reminds me of the idiots that buy suddenly overpriced guns every time a Dem is elected. Actually, there's probably a lot of overlap. So what if websites and big box stores with national reputations to maintain stop carrying them? There will always be plenty of outfits selling them and plenty of Chinese child labor to make them. That Most Terrorists Aren't Muslim May 'Come as a Surprise'--if You Get Your News From Corporate Media
Since the Al Qaeda attacks on September 11, 2001, the New York Times (6/23/15) reports,
extremists have regularly executed smaller lethal assaults in the United States…. But the breakdown of extremist ideologies behind those attacks may come as a surprise.
The “surprise” is that more people are killed by “white supremacists, antigovernment fanatics and other non-Muslim extremists than by radical Muslims”: 48 vs. 26 since 9/11, according to a study by the New America Foundation. (More comprehensive studies cited in a recent New York Times op-ed–6/16/15–show an even greater gap, with 254 killed in far-right violence since 9/11, according to West Point’s Combating Terrorism Center, compared to 50 killed in jihadist-related terrorism.)
... white, right-wing Christians are responsible for the bulk of political violence in the United States.
... There is research on this question–such as a study from University of Illinois communications professor Travis Dixon, summarized in the Champaign/Urbana News Gazette (6/23/15):
Between 2008 and 2012, about 6 percent of domestic terrorism suspects were Muslim, or about 1 in 17, according to FBI reports.
But in that same period, about 81 percent of the domestic terrorists described on national cable and network television news programs were Muslim....

I think I still have a 3' x 5' (I know, they are supposed to be square) Chinese knockoff version I bought at Spencer's, back in the 70s. "Endorse" is an interesting choice of words, because you clearly do support the companies that sell Chinese manufactured stuff, even if you may wish it was easier to get it US made. If one believes actions are louder than words, your continued purchase of Chinese goods is helping to enable the off-shoring practice. Yeah, yeah, I know - from a practical standpoint, one can't avoid Chinese products, but neither can one spend too much effort breast-beating on how they don't endorse manufacturing in China if they haven't taken all reasonable effort to avoid buying those products.Seth Milner wrote:Over half the crap in my house that I own has a Made in China label on it, that doesn't mean I endorse our manufacturing jobs in the U.S.be phased out because we can get it cheaper from China.

I pay taxes to SC, whatever in hell that's got anything to do with anything, and I don't give two shits whether or not that damn flag stays or goes. That flag represents whatever some weak-minded, self-serving, attention wanting dipshit lamebrain wants it to be. (Oops, did I just mention Vrede doo-doo's name?) I was raised in the south and I've heard my share of racist comments and had my ass beaten a few times because of my color, and I beat a few asses because of my color. Big fucking deal. That's in the past. What do you half-assed panty shitters want to get your ass all in a sling for nothing. If you don't like looking at something, look the other goddammed way idiot. But no, you the great Vrede, has to write protest letters, get in a frigging forum and call others names because they're not shit headed like you.Vrede doo-doo wrote:Cop out, you pay taxes to SC.
Hello Seth, you've met Vrede the resident shithead. His avatar used to be a picture of a stinking goat wearing a fag colored rainbow coat.Vrede doo-doo wrote:Nope, some of them are just ignorant or fools...You speak with illiterate tongue.
As you've probably read, he pushed someone too far in a corner and the smartass found some way to real ID. That sent his ass in a tailspin and he's childishly got that person on ignore. Like a little spoiled brat he is, he's off pouting in a corner until he decides it's time to belittle someone in this forum or brag about the queers and twat twinkies of the world and their glorious accomplishments. Anyone else writes about queers, he calls them obsessed or fantasizing about faggot sex. Get used to his superiority complex. As for me, I call him what he is, a fag loving, self serving arrogant stupid ass who thinks his opinions are the only ones that count. He's even blasted his cronies a few times, but they are so entwined with him, they didn't have sense enough to see he was putting them down. He's got a twin named Boatrocker, their personalities are identical matches. If you stick around, you'll be on his shit list before you know it. His replies above bear the marks of that impending moment.

Nah, the government slaver flags are just low hanging fruit, an easy way to stick it in the face of Dylann Roof and the haters that corrupted him, and it's a positive change we can immediately effect to honor the victims before Americans' short attention span kicks in. The struggle against white supremacy and gun violence will take longer, but Obama said it better than me in today's eulogy when he cited lowering the slaver flag (which got standing ovations) as a starting point in a long list of rectifying injustices, not an end point.JTA wrote:... I kinda feel like this has completely overshadowed the shooting in Charleston.
From ColorOfChange:
Remembering the Charleston church shooting victims
The nine people Roof murdered were deeply-loved community members who gave their lives to creating a better world:
Tywanza Sanders, 26-years-old, had recently graduated from Allen University with a degree in business administration and attended Mother Emanuel bible study often. "You would never forget that big ol’ smile that he always had on his face,” a friend said.
Cynthia Hurd, 54-years-old, dedicated her life to the public and was a librarian for 31 years. She was known as someone who asked all the right questions, "a beautiful person."
Rev. Clementa Pinckney, 41-years-old, was the pastor at Mother Emanuel, a South Carolina State Senator and lifetime champion of civil rights. At age 13 he was a preacher and age 27 he was the youngest African-American elected to the SC Senate.
Rev. Sharonda Coleman-Singleton, 45-years-old was a mother of three, reverend, high school speech therapist and track coach. Her family describes her as extremely driven, “when she wanted something, she just went after it.”
Myra Thompson, 54-years-old, would have turned 55 this past Sunday. She was an active church member, studying to be a minister and served on the board of trustees. “She was just an unbelievable woman,” said William Dudley Gregorie, friend and Charleston city councilman.
Ethel Lance, 70-years-old, was at Mother Emanuel almost every day, giving her time to usher, clean the grounds and study the bible. She was “A dear and sweet woman who worked very hard.”
Rev. Daniel Simmons, 74-years-old, a father and retired pastor who worshiped every Sunday at Mother Emanuel.
Rev. DePayne Middleton-Doctor, 49-years-old, mother of four who worked at Charleston’s Southern Wesleyan University. She was known for her warmth, enthusiasm and incredible singing voice.
Susie Jackson, 87-years-old, was long time member of the church, choir and usher board. Her grandson recently said, "it’s just hard to process that my grandmother had to leave Earth this way.”
They aren't being ignored and won't be forgotten.

I guess it is a coincidence on Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s part, the jury's still out on nascarfan88.Vrede too wrote:From GoCubsGo's Yahoo! link:Coincidence, right nascarfan88, or is it?... In one image, the suspected gunman is posed on the beach wearing the same clothes he is seen wearing on surveillance footage as he entered the chruch on Wednesday. It was not immediately clear if this image was taken the same day as the shooting, but if so, it would show that Roof took time to visit the beach, scratch the racist symbol 1488 in the sand and photograph himself before allegedly traveling to Charleston.
The symbol 1488, shown in Roof's photos, is a number that has been adopted by white supremacists, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center's Racist Skinhead Glossary.
The "88" refers to H, the eighth letter of the alphabet and is a symbol for "Heil Hitler." The "14" refers to a 14-word slogan popularized by David Lane, a white supremacist serving a 190-year sentence in the murder of a Jewish talk show host. The slogain is: "We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children." ...![]()
NASCAR's Dale Earnhardt Jr. backs ban on Confederate flag
... "I've made my comments about the Confederate flag several times, and I stand behind NASCAR's stance to remove it," Earnhardt said. "I think if it's offensive to an entire race, it really does nothing for anybody to be there flying. It belongs in the history books, that's about it."
...Jeff Gordon, Earnhardt's teammate, added that Hendrick Motorsports has long prohibited any merchandise that uses the Confederate flag symbol.
"Everything that we can control, we've eliminated the ability to use it in any way and show up in any of the things we're involved with," Gordon said. "That's the stance I see that NASCAR has taken and has had for several years. I'm in support of what they're doing....
