Can't make this (stuff) up

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Well, actually you can make stuff up.
Context: I may have mentioned that Lady O and I enjoy dinosaurs. We don't have dino art or keep stuffed dinos around, but we've taken some dino-based travels and seen a lot of museums. We've been on one active dig and are reasonably fluent in speaking dino.

So it turns out there are some places where you can see and touch the exact formations created when the asteroid hit and killed off the dinosaurs and the Cretaceous Period ended and the Cenozoic Era began. You can stand there and clearly see formations that, on one side there were dinosaurs and on the other side were mammals, eventually including us.

So we thought it would be cool to go to one of those places if they're reasonably accessible. One is in Colorado near the town of Trinidad, not far off the 25, and another is in Vrede's old home state of Montana near the Hell Creek area.

Here's the "made up" part: close to the area where you can touch the end of dinosaurs is the town of Glendive that has a "Dinosaur and Fossil Museum"
Expecting something really good, such as we found in Thermopolis, WY, we looked at their site. Opps. Should have gotten our first clue in their URL. At this fine institution, you can learn that dinosaurs really were on the Ark, somehow herded on by people who lived with the dinosaurs and in some cases domesticated them (like Flintstones, I suppose)

Yeah, you really can make stuff up and get people to give you money for it. And many write good reviews of your fantasy. https://creationtruth.org/

Anyway, the Colorado trip looks better for us.
Meet Our Team

Somewhat accomplished. How can they promote such stupidity?

Have you already visited, in Bozeman, MT?
Museum of the Rockies

Museum of the Rockies is a museum in Bozeman, Montana. Originally affiliated with Montana State University in Bozeman, and now also, the Smithsonian Institution. The museum is largely known for its Paleontological collections as well as having the largest collection of North American Dinosaur fossils in the United States. They also possess the largest Tyrannosaurus skull ever discovered, as well as the thigh bone of a Tyrannosaurus rex that contains soft-tissue remains. The museum is part of the Montana Dinosaur Trail and is Montana's official repository for Paleontological specimens....
Montana's anti-Glendive.
Jack Horner (paleontologist)

John Robert Horner (born June 15, 1946) is an American paleontologist most famous for describing Maiasaura, providing the first clear evidence that some dinosaurs cared for their young. In addition to his paleontological discoveries, Horner served as the technical advisor for the first five Jurassic Park films, had a cameo appearance in Jurassic World, and served as a partial inspiration for one of the lead characters of the franchise, Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill)....
He's even got a little Bill Belichick in him:
He retired from Montana State University on July 1, 2016, although he claims to have been pushed out of the Museum of the Rockies after having married an undergraduate student (19!) ...

Horner and Vanessa Weaver :wtf:

Belichick's gf is 24, practically a fossil in comparison ;)

Yeah we've been to the museum in Bozeman. Stayed for about a week in Three Forks and saw it along with the Missouri headwaters. It's a great museum and I'm sure they get a lot of humor from the clowns in Glendive - unless they resent the clowns making a mockery of their real scientific work.

While the Ark people are making stuff up about collecting animals that didn't actually exist in that part of the world, they ignore a much larger flood that really occurred and pretty much created the geology of the Northwest today. The Missoula floods at the end of the Ice Age sent walls of water down the mountains all the way into Oregon and the sea. We've traveled along and visited a lot of the most noticeable places along the path of the floods.

My state has cancelled the drivers license of a 77 year old Navy veteran because they say he isn't a US citizen. His parents are US citizens and he has spent nearly his entire life in the US. He was actually born in Canada while the parents were visiting there. He has a Canadian birth certificate.

14,000 Tennesseans sent letters requesting proof of citizenship ahead of election
The state's coordinator of elections says 'voter rolls are a vital component to ensuring election integrity.' But Democrats and immigrant rights advocates say the letters are a 'scare tactic.'

Weeks ahead of the Aug. 1 primary elections, Tennessee Coordinator of Elections Mark Goins has sent letters to 14,375 “potential non-U.S. citizens” asking for proof of citizenship and noting penalties for illegal voting, raising concern in Tennessee's immigrant communities and sparking outrage from Democratic lawmakers who called the move an attempt at voter intimidation....

Pratik Dash, political director at the Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition, said Tennesseans "deserve the freedom to vote without fear and have an equal say in the decisions that impact our lives, whether we were born in this country or naturalized as citizens."

"Instead of adding additional requirements for already registered voters, our appointed and elected officials should be doing everything in their power to make voting easier and more accessible for all," Dash said in a statement. "We are working closely with our community members and partners to support immigrant voters and ensure they have the tools and information they need to cast their ballot confidently in the upcoming elections."

Democrats call letters 'a scare tactic'

In response, state Reps. Jason Powell, D-Nashville, and John Ray Clemmons, D-Nashville, decried the letters as an an effort to target new American citizens and suppress voter turnout.

"On its face, this letter is an egregious and unlawful act by a state official that targets a certain population of citizens who are lawful voters with the clear intent to intimidate them,” Clemmons said in a statement. “By all accounts, these letters were only mailed to Tennesseans who, in pursuit of the American dream, immigrated to the United States, chose to make Tennessee their home, worked hard to obtain U.S. citizenship, and lawfully registered to vote. I am proud to represent thousands of these new Americans and their families residing in the wonderfully diverse District 55, and it angers and offends me that a state official would abuse his office and state resources to unlawfully target them for dubious purposes."

Powell said the letters burden voters with "re-proving their own voter eligibility" while being "threatened with imprisonment in a scare tactic reminiscent of Jim Crow laws."

"Mark Goins needs to cease with these threatening letters immediately and refrain from purging anyone who is eligible to vote from the voter rolls," Powell said.

House Democratic Leader Karen Camper, D-Memphis, wrote a letter to Secretary of State Tre Hargett asking for answers on how state officials determined who should receive the letters, and questioning which state laws permit his office to demand proof of citizenship, writing that the “action has raised significant concerns among my constituents and within the broader community.”

“The right to vote is a cornerstone of our democracy, and it is imperative that all actions taken in the name of election security do not undermine voter confidence or disenfranchise eligible voters,” Camper wrote.

Rep. Gloria Johnson, D-Knoxville, who is running for U.S. Senate, shared on social media that a respected Oak Ridge scientist who became a citizen and registered to vote at their citizenship ceremony in 2022 received a letter.

I;m glad that when I came back to TN I registered as Independent. Had I got such a letter, I'd immediately write back and accuse the sender of being a child molester as well as an agent for a shadowy foreign government. I might also insinuate the letter writer engaged in incest as a child wis his mother or her father, depending on who the letter sender is. These people are vile and need to be stomped.

Tennessee's 4th Senate district looks like it's adjacent to yours. RepuQ Bobby is running against incumbent RepuQ Jon Lundberg in the August 1 primary :wtf: Not sure why, but you gotta figure the odds are not in upstart Bobby's favor.

I've seen an equal number of ads for Lundberg.....his crow about how he's "saving women's sports".....an obligatory nod to anti trans hysteria. His ads also mention other standard right wing nonsense. I'm assuming little Bobby will just try to out Cro Maganon the incumbent Neandertrump. I figure it won't be ling before the entire GQP is staffed with the kind of fools like Greene, Gosar, Jordan, Comer, etc. Oh, wait, they've already done that.......

Medics remove 26-inch eel from man's stomach after it bit its way out
WARNING, GRAPHIC CONTENT: The Vietnamese patient, 31, was left in agony when the eel bit through his large intestine and the animal was still alive when it was removed from his body by doctors.

Image

A Vietnamese man is fortunate to have survived after medical professionals extracted a 26-inch-long eel from his body - the sea creature had bitten through his intestine....

Medical staff were unable to remove the creature through the anus due to a lemon lodged there.
:wtf:
Healthcare workers at Viet Duc Hospital in Hanoi made an incision in his abdomen to extract the eel with forceps.

They removed the lemon through his anus and mended his large intestine and abdomen with stitches. According to medics, the patient would have died if he had not sought medical attention.

He is expected to recover, but he will have to live with a stoma bag for the rest of his life....
Ugh.
Image

Hospital Deputy Director of the Center for Colon and Rectal Surgery Dr Le Nhat Huy stated that removing foreign objects from patients' bodies is not uncommon for hospital staff. From glass bottles to sex toys, healthcare workers thought they had seen it all until the 31 year old arrived.

Dr. Huy acknowledged this was his first time extracting a live creature from someone's rear end, issuing a warning: "Eels are animals that can survive in anaerobic conditions for a long time and can puncture the digestive tract. People should absolutely not insert animals through their anus to create a strong sensation, as the consequences can be severe."
Wise words.
... In a strikingly similar case, a 34 year old man from Quang Ninh Province in northern Vietnam presented at a hospital with excruciating abdominal pain. Echoing a previous case, doctors performed an X-ray and discovered an eel wriggling inside his belly.

The creature had caused serious health issues including intestinal perforation and peritonitisboth potentially fatal conditions marked by inflamed abdomen tissue.
Don't, just don't. :naughty:
