The last time I encountered a police "checkpoint" was about 1996 on old Spartanburg Highway. A NC state trooper was there by himself checking licenses. I lived near there and was on the way to return a VHS movie to the rental place. I did not have my wallet with me for some reason, so no license or id of any kind. When I got up to him, I immediately said "you're not gonna like this, but I don't have my license with me. But I know the number of it." I recited the seven digit number to him, he went to his radio for a few minutes, then came back and let me go. Nice guy, very professional, physically fit. If I'd had an open beer and a lit joint at the time, he probably would have been less amenable.....but it was early and I had not hit my stride.
Of course, you're white and not a kid.
I hit one 10 or 12 years ago on Hwy. 25 between Hooterville and Fletcher, plus drug/immigrant ones in or near border states.
You inspired my response to "a socialist worker" about other socialist workers:

Dear Mayor Volk,
Thank you for your quick response.
Perhaps I was not clear. I have no problem with traffic law enforcement, and the rude cop did not reminding me "to respect the speed limits." Rather, my issue is with making all drivers, ones who are doing nothing wrong, feel like they're passing through Checkpoint Charlie into East Berlin.
Sincerely,
(Vrede too)
Already sent, but I could have been a little snarkier and said, "I was only reminded to respect speed limits when traffic is backed up and I can see half a dozen police cars." Probably best that I didn't think of it in time
