Amending the law is not the issue, nor has it happpened. That it IS fucking law, is the issue. And SCOTUS bears a little more authoritative weight than some wingnut pundit.Wneglia wrote:Boatrocker wrote:Doesn't make a damned bit of difference. The bill was passed by congress, signed into law by the president and upheld by SCOTUS. These assholes will be looking to "defund" the 13th amendment next.
From Krauthammer: "President Obama indignantly insists that GOP attempts to abolish or amend Obamacare are unseemly because it is "settled" law, having passed both houses of Congress, obtained his signature and passed muster with the Supreme Court. Yes, settledness makes for a strong argument — except from a president whose administration has unilaterally changed Obamacare five times after its passage, including, most brazenly, a yearlong suspension of the employer mandate.
Article 1 of the Constitution grants the legislative power entirely to Congress. Under what constitutional principle has Obama unilaterally amended the law?"

Just let Boehner and his pee party buddies twist slowly in the
wind as they try to figure how to get out of the mess they're in.

It never works well to negotiate with terrorists. If they were rational, they wouldn't be terrorists.

Re: Wingnutties out of control!
I don't think I'd make a very good rich person. If I had a billion dollars, I'd probably give most of it away to various "good causes" and nefarious friends and aquaintances, hoping they'd make the best of it. I suspect the rest of it would go the way of something like "I spent half of it on women and whiskey, and wasted the rest." What really gets me about this whole debt issue is that our money is only backed up (guaranteed) by the "full faith and credit" of our country. That these stupid bastards are apparently willing to risk that just blows me out. Maybe I should just go ahead and max out all my credit cards and threaten not to pay any of that unless the traffic light at the intersection of highway 25 and 191 is fixed. Why didn't I think of this before? ok

I should have added the mess they got themselves into. Obama's position
now seems to be no negotiations before the CR and debt ceiling are
approved. Maybe he'll throw Johnny a few crumbs just to be nice and
also because nobody likes to see a grown man cry.

I saw that, too. Cool. I sort of think the GOP has generally become a case of spontaneous combustion over this stupid business they keep prolonging. It seems to actually be registering with them lately....even their patrons are beginning to howl.

Why don't you just ask him to eliminate world hunger and get all countries to be at peace? Probably has a better chance of getting it done.Vrede wrote:Tea Party Republicans: Stop holding the country hostage!
To be delivered to: Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC11)From the government shutdown to the debt ceiling, Tea Party Republicans have wreaked enough havoc on our country. Stop holding the country hostage to further your political gains; vote on a clean budget resolution and raise the debt ceiling without demanding cuts to Social Security, Obamacare, or any other vital programs.

I started to make some snarky comment about dating yourself with that reference, but then I remembered that most of us in here seem to be old enough that we'd not find the use of "bippy" to be incomprehensible.Mr.B wrote: . . . I noticed a headline from "Business Insider" today saying "Ted Cruz lives on another planet." I didn't even read it; I said to myself "that's not news."

Re: Wingnutties out of control!
So I was in NY a couple of days this week and laughed at the ads running against Booker (who won handily). Word for word copies of what the right wing loons run here..."Booker is more liberal than Obama, worse than (somebody I don't know)...Booker is too liberal for New Jersey" Then I watched the debate between de Blasio and Lhota. What a roll on the floor laugher. Lhota, who looks like a dwarf beside the much taller de Blasio was trying so hard to distance himself from the teabaggers and those horrid Republicans who shut down the government. de Blasio asked what he was doing speaking to a tea party group if he wasn't looking for their support. Lhota actually said "I'll speak to any group that asks me - that doesn't mean I agree with them or want their support"
