The Democrats onstage saw themselves as morally courageous. American voters, it turned out, saw a group of politicians hopelessly out of touch.

Standing side by side at a primary debate in June 2019, 10 of the party’s candidates for president were asked to raise their hand if they wanted to decriminalize illegal border crossings. Only one of them held still.

Six years later, the party remains haunted by that tableau. It stands both as a vivid demonstration of a leftward policy shift on immigration that many prominent Democratic lawmakers and strategists now say they deeply regret, and as a marker of how sharply the country was moving in the other direction.

Last year, 55 percent of Americans told Gallup that they supported a decrease in immigration, nearly twice as many as in 2020, and the first time since 2005 that a majority had said so. The embrace of a more punitive approach to illegal immigration includes not only white voters but also working-class Latinos, whose support Democrats had long courted with liberal border policies.

“When you have the most Latino district in the country outside of Puerto Rico vote for Trump, that should be a wake-up call for the Democratic Party,” said Representative Vicente Gonzalez of Texas, who saw Mr. Trump win every county in his district along the border with Mexico. “This is a Democratic district that’s been blue for over a century.”

How the Democrats reached this point, and their continued struggles on immigration, is a decades-long story of political failures, missteps, misreadings and misplaced bets — and some shrewd Republican moves.

“We got led astray by the 2016 and the 2020 elections, and we just never moved back,” said Senator Ruben Gallego of Arizona, who introduced an immigration and border security plan in May. “We looked feckless, we weren’t decisive, we weren’t listening to voters, and the voters decided that we weren’t in the right when it comes to what was happening with the border.”

MAGA Star Hit With Bombshell Allegations After Wife’s Biblical Divorce Drama

The adulterous MAGA politician whose wife is divorcing him on “biblical grounds” has been hit with even more cheating accusations.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and his estranged wife Angela declared three separate homes as their primary residence in mortgage documents, allowing them to lock in improperly low lending rates, the Associated Press reported.

They also allegedly double-dipped on a tax break for primary residences and listed two other investment properties as vacation homes on the mortgage applications.

Interest rates on mortgages for primary homes are much lower than the rates for secondary homes or investment properties, allowing the couple to potentially save hundreds of thousands of dollars with the false statements, The New York Times reported.

It’s a federal and state crime to knowingly make false statements on mortgage documents.

... “But in light of recent discoveries, I do not believe that it honors God or is loving to myself, my children, or Ken to remain in the marriage.”

Does it honor God to LIE on mortgage and tax documents?

... They rent out the College Station home even though the mortgage says the property is for the Paxtons’ exclusive use and cannot be rented out.

And the Broken Bow home—a luxury five-bedroom cabin—is available for rent on Airbnb even though the $1.2 million mortgage, which is in Ken Paxton’s name, stipulates that it can’t be rented out.

... The findings are ironic given that President Donald Trump has accused his political adversaries—including California Sen. Adam Schiff and New York Attorney Letitia James—of mortgage fraud based on far less serious circumstances, according to the AP.

Last month, Paxton told reporters, “I hope that if [James] has done something wrong, I hope that she’s actually held accountable.”

Conveniently, Ken Paxton’s office is the primary agencies tasked with investigating allegations of mortgage fraud, making him unlikely to face much legal trouble in Texas, the outlet reported.

Then in 2023, he was impeached by the Republican-controlled state House over accusations of corruption and abuse of power connected to his affair, though the state Senate acquitted him....

MAGA loves cheats and crooks as long as they're loyal to Cult leader DonOLD. In a just America the Paxtons would be bled dry and locked up.
