Thanks. Hence, the right has forced "right to work" and "at will" employment states upon nurses like me and tens of millions of other Americans.
Well, sorta. "Right to work" is anti-union and a misnomer, but all it means is that in a RTW state, you can't be required to join or pay union dues even if you work in a unionized company. It's a mechanism to reduce funding to unions and to stir up antagonism between the union members (who pay for all the good stuff the non-joiners enjoy) and the non-joiners, sometimes referred to as deadbeat slugs or worse.

"At Will" has very little impact in real life because the rest of it goes "an employer may terminate an employee for any or no reason as long as it isn't an illegal reason." So sure, your employer can fire you because he doesn't like your ratty car in the lot or just because he doesn't like you. But you're going to go to your lawyer and say that's bullshit. He didn't fire me for that, he fired me because I'm Black/female/old/union organizer, yada. Then the employer will have to justify the firing in a way that's believable. No federal/state agency or jury is ever going to believe the employer who stands up there and says "yeah, he was a good worker, good attendance, good performance, employees and patients liked him, but I got sick of that ratty car in the lot." Or "I just woke up and decided to fire him just because I can"

I understand the difference, but "right to work (right to be screwed)" makes "at will" employment far more likely for groups like nurses who would otherwise be organized. I think you underestimate the impact. Since I wasn't a union organizer or that old I never belonged to a protected group. In the end I resigned but was de facto fired for refusing to wear white scrub tops. A union likely would have prevented such a demeaning and stupid uniform choice. Then, there's the chilling effect of "at will" employment that never lands on the desks of lawyers like you were. We all knew that we were at the mercy of bosses' whims.

Could the new HC have been unaware of the hazing? Maybe if he's more Braun than brains  GoPussiesGo!
You're still paying more attention than me.

Might be time to start.

You know your truth, and I don't think I ever personally worked for a hospital where either the nurses weren't union or the hospital was perpetually short of nursing staff and probably wouldn't fire one for taking a dump on the director's desk. But certainly there are probably more that would be similar to your experience. But still, if an employee really is fired for "no reason' or some bogus reason, all they have to do is claim it was for some unlawful reason and the employer has to justify its action. Possibly you reported or complained about safety issues. Possibly you spoke with some of your colleagues about your pay, hospitals are notorious for confusing exempt and non-exempt nurses and botching overtime. If you're over 40 you can claim age discrimination and even though you'd lose, you'd still force the employer to defend your firing with something. Of course, if they had a standing rule on white tops and enforced it consistently, then the termination really isn't for no reason. A rule doesn't have to be reasonable, just publicized and enforced.

I might have been unclear. Getting "fired" (allowed to resign) for deliberately flaunting the white top rule wasn't termination "for no reason." In fact, my sympathetic bosses let me skate for months. I'm sure that jealous coworkers eventually complained, as was their right. Rather, I think having a union to represent us would have prevented the unpopular white tops from ever becoming the rule.

Ftr, this was an example of disctatorial Mission "Healthcare" being fucked up even before HCA.

:D I involuntarily but unabashedly became a disruptive influence. Of course, I was somewhat ready to retire and this was "the hill" I chose to go out defending.

Not sure there's all that much correlation between coach pay and team success. Seems likely DeBoer (WA 10-0, #44 pay) could sit in Nick or Daboo seat with the same players and do as well.

Dunno, it's consistently being reported as "retirement" but he did have three years left so I doubt he's leaving without some lovely parting gifts. Looks like both he and the school just want to handle it with a bit of grace. Pretty decent considering his record this year.

I didn't mention it since the coach was fired 6 weeks ago over hazing and the interim HC wasn't made permanent until this week, but it's there, sort of:

David Braun Northwestern Big Ten - No data. It is private like Duke, so might never share the figures.

Several of the 'No data' schools are public -0-?

Somebody, and it might have been me, said:
Not everybody is going to like a braggart like Neon Dion, but he is what he is, and has been since getting to FSU. Difference though in a "sham" like the article painted is that he has delivered on his boasts everywhere he's been.
Somebody might like to reconsider.
