Why is it almost every picture of John Bolton I see in news articles is a picture of him adjusting his glasses?

He does this to try and obtain a balance between that Yosemite Sam visage and a serious diplomat and national security adviser. I will always think of him as Yosemite Sam. He is still trying to figure out where his horse is.

I can understand that each Senator and Congressperson has to consider their own political health/life, and it isn't likely to be in their best interest to make themselves a Trump target until/unless they have to or until/unless they have a lot - a lot - of company. I don't understand why they, and particularly rank and file Repugs actually defend the stuff he does.

If they want to say "the guy's scum, but he's our scum and we'd rather have him than let the Dems rule" I can understand that, and might even say something similar if there was a Democratic travesty. But I wouldn't act like he was great at what he's doing. I wouldn't wander around defending the indefensible. If the evangelicals want to say "abortion is the only issue I care about and if Trump backs us on that, we'll ignore everything else," that makes some perverted sense. But never any criticism otherwise? I voted for Carter, Clinton, Obama (duh) but I had critical issues with all of them. And I voted for them twice even with the criticism, but I never pretended the could do no wrong. I guess it's the difference in political parties and cults.
