I didn't search the garbage can for definitions. Since you're on the warpath (is that racist too?) to prove to the world you're oh so righteous and upstanding, I'll tell you where I first heard the term.

Years ago, there was a prominent Jewish merchant in Hendersonville who had two clothing stores; one an upscale and the other a budget store. As a kid, I used to cut his grass to earn a little spending money, and then go to either of his stores to shop when I needed clothes. (I couldn't afford Belks or Penneys) He gave me a discount on my purchases adding that I couldn't "Jew him down any further". I thought that was funny and still do, despite all the political correctness associated with the expression. (k9nanny probably knows who I'm talking about).

I think that guy was a dumbass; I figure letters and numbers cost the same, numbers maybe a little more since there's more curves, but he could have saved considerably if he used numbers exclusively on the dates. I myself will have Roman numerals on my stone.....MCMLIV and ? I figure 12 or 13 letters max. Beats 31 and a half (for the commas) any day. It would be funny if there was a Roman numeral D and E. Maybe then I could die in the year MMDIE
