Guns, race, religion, terror, wingnut thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

In Sarah's defense, she probably really believes she's in England and that she is indeed a queen.

No, Sarah. Had you made that statement as the incident happened, you would merely be a moron, and a racist one at that given the other claims in your rant.

Making it almost a week later, you invoke what the Ken at Popehat calls the Gary Hart Rule: Some behavior does not merely show bad character. It displays a level of stupidity so alarming as to render the bad character secondary. It raises a serious question as to whether emergency personnel should be rushed to the scene to equip the subject with a ventilator in case he forgets to breathe.

A Muslim teen, fourteen-year-old Ahmed Mohamed, bought a strange ticking device to his school ...
It's digital.

They're playing on the whole ticking time bomb in a briefcase movie trope that used to be common back in the day.

It's incredibly absurd.

That pretty much covers everything this dipshit twinkie has ever said.

Someone may have already commented on this in another thread, but I was reading the other day that here in TN there's a movement afoot to disregard / nullify / pretend it isn't so the recent Supreme Court ruling regarding the legitimacy and legality of gay marriage......something like the "Tennessee Natural Marriage Act" or some such bullshit....I thought NC was bad but it would seem the lunacy is prevalent up here as well. I would move again to yet somewhere else but fear it may end up being worse there. How is one to tell if the place you intend to move to is susceptible to wingnut dubmass syndrome?

Do you plan on remaining in the South?
Tennessee Bill Aims to Nullify Supreme Court Marriage Ruling

... The bill essentially attempts to nullify the Obergefell v. Hodges Supreme Court decision by preventing the state from recognizing any marriage other than one between a man and a woman and requiring the attorney general to defend any local official who defies the Supreme Court.

Do we think it will ultimately stand up in court? No, though the sponsors and those advising them believe it is a new path to get the issue reconsidered by the courts. And if the bill passes, I suspect we will have to endure a period of chaos in Tennessee in which random local officials around the state use the bill as an excuse to discriminate against same-sex couples already married and those seeking marriage licenses....

In general, for me, the more south the better......I cannot move to a place that is colder in winter than TN or NC. Which presents a dilemma, since anything more south than I already am is more than likely to be even more wingnutty.....my choices are; SC, FL, AL, GA, MS, AK, TX, LA..... :wtf:

It's getting harder to go by that standard, although the takeover by the inmates in some southern states highlights the dark underbelly. But in formerly progressive Wisconsin, they elected Walker, put in a majority Republican legislature and released the loons. Maine - Maine! elected LePage twice.
Arizona is proud of their xenophobia and their gun-nuttiness. But there's always Canada - except for maybe Toronto, who somehow though Rob Ford was a good idea.

I wouldn't know. Other than changing planes at the airport, I haven't been there since Mel Lastman was mayor.

“They don’t know what they’re talking about. I don’t know who this group is. I’ve never heard of them before. I had never seen them before. They’re located somewhere in Geneva.”
- Mel Lastman, former Mayor of Toronto on CNN talking about the World Health Organization during Toronto’s SARS crisis.

True, but there remain options in the non-South. In the South it's a certainty.

Yes, depending on how broad you want to define where you live. There are lots of places in the south that aren't as wacky as others. But it reminds me of a trip the "Mrs." and I took to hike the Cumberland Gap. We had stopped at an RV park in Virginia, and were at a little shopping/restaurant area along a main road. I said, "it looks all normal right here, but I'll bet within 5 miles there's some hard-core Appalachia." On the way back to the park, not 3 miles from the highway, were some places right out of a National Geographic feature, Dew-mouthed kids and all. I think the right-wingers have turned into something like MRSA. You might not see them, but they're around everywhere, waiting to infect you if you are insufficiently conscientious about cleanliness.

Agreed, like parts of NC and probably TN. Since neoplacebo's tangent was about state action, I was taking each Southern state as a whole.
