Or even a long distance from a hurricane. Back when one passed over the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, I jokingly speculated that the storm's lightning could ignite the oil and the whole thing could come ashore as a hurricane of fire.
In hindsight it was in bad taste, much like joking about Donald Trump being elected President.
Damn, someone just rented the house starting Saturday.
My only chance now is a mandatory evacuation.
Not gonna go look through old NOAA storm tracks, but if memory serves, Opal was predicted as a nothing storm that would hit NO or west as a TD or a cat 1
We had very little warning of this huge cat 4 hitting Pensacola.

I ran, traffic at standstill, sheltered in a ft Walton biker bar, county suspended alcohol sales, county announced that they were closing county lines to all traffic in and out for 3 to 4 days and it's still just the front side of the storm - it gets better.
