Nice day today - 76 and sunny, surfing tournament at the beach, a fairly large but informal gathering of a bunch of customs, hot rods and resto-mods, and some excellent barbeque on a still-warm fresh baguette. You can get most any kind of barbeque around here - Carolina pulled pork, Memphis/St. Louis ribs, wet or dry, Texas brisket, yada. But California barbeque is Tri-tip. You're not going to find it in the restaurants of most parts of BRD-land, but if you want to try something different from your usual, here it is:

Looks great. I don't buy a lot of red meat, is that a cut I can readily get, or would I need the butcher to cut it?

Not so sure about the oak smoke mentioned in the comments. I'd probably stick with shagbark hickory, pecan, or cherry. Possibly mesquite, I like it for fish, especially tuna.

Well guys, I've been searching the woods high and low for morels but came up empty handed. What do I find under my deck? A morel patch. I've found about eight already. What.

That's pretty much how I find things. I search and search everywhere. After giving up I find the object of my search was in my pocket, on my head, etc

No, tri-tip is sirloin, from the upper back - flat iron is chuck or shoulder. Still, if you couldn't get tri-tip it would probably make a good bbq.

You ever thought about growing them? Years ago a dude I knew soaked a log or two ( not sure what kind) and propped them up in a shady spot and seeded them with shitake and morel spores.

It worked.

I grew some oyster mushrooms. I didn't know you could grow morels. Might have to look into that

Man, that picture of tri tip meat brings back horrid memories of when I stomped one of those poison sac lizards on a blazing highway. It kind of looked like that after a few hours.

Yeah I was highly offended at first, but he's right - and that could apply to most any barbeque, particularly ribs with sauce. Kinda have to watch what you buy, I suppose - especially at places that actually name themselves "Road Kill Cafe."

Maybe we only stopped it in American made.
