It's hard to remember when a Williams wasn't dominating.Serena Williams wins Wimbledon, Serena Slam
She's done it. Serena Williams is the 2015 Wimbledon champion. She's completed her second Serena Slam, her sixth Wimbledon, and won her 21st Grand Slam title.
At next month's U.S. Open, she'll attempt to go for the first calendar-year Grand Slam since 1988. She'll also be looking to tie Steffi Graf's record of 22 Grand Slams titles....

I'm not a huge tennis fan, but whoa! Australian Open finals - Rafael Nadal vs. Roger Federer and Serena against Venus Williams. There may never be another finals with more collective lifetime talent.

Did Serena Williams's French Open Catsuit Make The French Tennis Federation President Too Horny?
You have too wonder whether this would have happened to a white player. Either way, it turns out that the sticks up the French Tennis Federation's butts are not a dress code violation. I don't care if they wear clown suits, either they're good tennis players or they're not.

Comeback Coco: Gauff escapes at Wimbledon, extends unlikely run
It was easy to forget that Coco Gauff is still just 15 as she stood on the grass of Centre Court, pounding her chest and shouting, “Let’s go! Come on!” to celebrate a 32-stroke point that forced a third set in her match Friday evening at Wimbledon.
Up in the stands, mom rose to pump a fist and yell, “Yes!” Thousands of spectators jumped out of their seats, too, roaring.
By then, Gauff already twice had been a point from losing in the third round to Polona Hercog (#60) of Slovenia.
Most players, no matter the age, would not be able to find a path past that kind of a deficit on this imposing a stage, would not be able to handle that sort of stress and figure out a way. Gauff is, quite clearly, not most players.
That much has been established. How far can she go, both this fortnight and in the future? The tennis world is watching, waiting to learn the answers.
That Gauff, ranked 313th and facing another unseeded player, was scheduled to appear at Wimbledon’s main stadium says plenty about what a sensation the Floridian already is.
That she won this one, and how she did so — erasing a pair of match points and coming back to beat Hercog 3-6, 7-6 (7), 7-5 — offer some insight into what Gauff might become....
As it is, she was the youngest player to qualify for Wimbledon in the professional era, winning three matches last week against higher-ranked women in the preliminary rounds.
Then, by upsetting five-time champion Venus Williams (#44), who is 39, in the first round of the main event, Gauff became the youngest woman to win a match at the All England Club since 1991, when Jennifer Capriati reached the semifinals at 15.
That was followed by a win against 2017 Wimbledon semifinalist Magdalena Rybarikova (#139), who is 30, before getting past Hercog, 28. When a reporter wanted to know how Gauff might spend the prize money she’s already earned of about 175,000 pounds ($220,000), she replied: “I mean, I can’t buy a car, because I can’t drive.”
... Next up: A fourth-round matchup against 2018 French Open champion and former No. 1 Simona Halep (#7, ut-oh), who eliminated two-time major champ Victoria Azarenka 6-3, 6-1....

"ranked 313..."
Maybe they should reconsider that ranking.

Re: Tennis
I was going to suggest that maybe it's time for #44 Venus, 39, to retire, but she's earned $513,548 this year, plus any endorsements.
http://scores.nbcsports.com/tennis/rank ... WTA&rank=1
Serena, 37, is #10, $623,533.
#1 Ashleigh Barty, Australia, $5,122,783.
#452 in points, Ukraine's Anhelina Kalinina, is #200 for money, $62,769. Not bad for sort of sucking.

Asked what she had overcome on Saturday, she said, “definitely the crowd.” Then she offered a most Canadian response: “I know you guys wanted Serena to win,” she said. “I’m sorry.”

Re: Tennis
Wow, just reading the article is exciting.
Rafael Nadal wins Australian Open, makes history with 21st Grand Slam win
After two grueling weeks, Rafael Nadal is the last man standing. After an epic five-set match that included a thrilling, gritty comeback from two sets down, Nadal has won the Australian Open. He defeated Daniil Medvedev 2-6, 6-7, 6-4, 6-4, 7-5, taking advantage of Medvedev's massive collapse and finding reserves of energy he may not have known he even had over a match that lasted five hours and 24 minutes.
With this victory, Nadal becomes the first man to win 21 Grand Slams, leaving both Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer still tied at 20 each.
This triumph represents a major comeback for Nadal. He spent the past six months battling both injury and illness, and then had to rally from what felt like almost certain defeat against Medvedev. But they don't call him one of the greatest for nothing.
... Medvedev managed to tie the final set 5-5, and it all came down to the final two games. With the final game, in which Medvedev wasn't able to score a single point, Nadal erased years and years of heartbreak at Rod Laver Arena and made history with his 21st Grand Slam win and his first Australian Open title since 2009, just his second ever.
... At 35 years old and not yet at full fitness, he found the power, the precision, the aggression, and the energy to come back against a player 10 years his junior. He now stands alone in the record books.

I didn't think I'd see any of it live, started at 2:30 CST. Woke up in the fourth set and saw the end. Guess it started a little late and it was over a five hour match.

Re: Tennis
Agreed. Still . I hope 40 year old apparently unranked Serena wins the 2022 US Open, August 29 – September 11. That would be a real Hollywood exit! Surprising to me is that she was last ranked No. 1 way back on July 8, 2002.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serena_Williams
Look at all of those wins, 23 Grand Slam titles! She is arguably the GOAT in any women's sport, and possibly the GOAT athlete of any gender (sorry Mia, Lisa Leslie, FloJo, Ledecky, Simone, MJ, Ali, Willie, Wayne, Phelps, Pelé, Jesse and Tom).
