Ouch. Losing 5 of 6 is much worse than you predicted. Not a single AP vote (MD and Bluefield each got 1 :P ) AND Bama is #1. That sure got ugly quick.

Volunteers killed the bammers. Bammer tweets are funny stuff about Tennessee cheating. So funny coming from the school that nearly always has the refs in their pocket.

No. 10 Tennessee stuns No. 1 Alabama, tying all-time record for top-ranked teams losing this season

It's not just you. It is an objective fact that this is one of the most chaotic college basketball seasons in recent memory.

No. 1 Alabama fell, 68-59, to No. 10 Tennessee on Wednesday, the latest top-ranked team to fall face first in a season that may only get more ridiculous come March. According to Stats Perform, Wednesday was the eighth loss by a No. 1 team this season, tying the 1993-94 season for the most in college basketball history.

Four different teams — UNC, Houston, Purdue and Alabama — have shared the crown this season, and none have held onto it for very long.

UNC opened the season on top after returning most of a team that reached the national championship game last year, but the Tar Heels have since become a historic disappointment....

Tennessee men's basketball repeats football history vs. Alabama

You may remember a plucky Tennessee football team taking down a higher-ranked Alabama at home last October.

Well, you won't be surprised to hear that Volunteers fans happily drew some parallels between that wild night and this one, with fans chanting "Just like football" and the Tennessee men's basketball Twitter account joining in....
UNC is now unranked :( . Your turn, Bama.

"historic disappointment", indeed.
Ordinarily I might say the season doesn't really start until the conference tournament ... or not.

Is it too early for bets on Auburn, MD and UNC in the NIT, or on whether they'll even qualify? :problem:

Something like 15 lead changes. Their go-ahead score was with .3 seconds left and seemed to involve some creative officiating. There were two fouls on their shooter, one on the way up before the shot clock and the other after the shot clock. The ref making the call appeared to me and to the announcers to make the call on the foul as the shooter came down; therefore, Auburn's ball and game. After a long review they said that the call was for the 1st foul: therefore, Vandy gets foul shots and the game.

It was difficult ti tell, but the whistle was definitely after the shot clock and the ref appeared to be maybe pointing at the 2nd foul.

Oh well.

Auburn receives no votes in latest AP poll
:(
North Carolina flirts with becoming worst preseason No. 1 team
The Tar Heels, losers of four of five, look to be on the NCAA tournament bubble

... With all but one starter returning from last year’s national runners-up, a prized transfer filling that vacancy and three top-100 freshmen set to provide depth, North Carolina entered the season as AP voters’ runaway pick as national title favorite. But not even four months later, the Tar Heels have long since plummeted out of the Top 25 and need a strong regular-season finish just to make the NCAA tournament.

An 80-72 home loss to Miami on Monday dropped North Carolina to 16-10 overall and just 8-7 in an unusually weak ACC. Even worse, the Tar Heels have dropped all nine Quadrant 1 games they’ve played this season. North Carolina’s marquee non-league wins over Michigan and Ohio State looked more helpful in December than they do now. The only reason the Tar Heels even remain a bubble team is their lack of a truly bad loss.

While ballyhooed college basketball teams underachieve every season, it’s exceedingly rare for the AP’s preseason No. 1 team to struggle deep into February.

Every preseason No. 1 has made the NCAA tournament since the field expanded to 64 in 1985. Nearly two-thirds of those teams have landed No. 1 seeds, and all but three have earned No. 3 seeds or better. Only 2013-14 Kentucky failed to secure at least a No. 5 seed, and those Julius Randle-led Wildcats salvaged an underachieving regular season with an out-of-nowhere run from a No. 8 seed to the national title game....
:(

AP Top 25

1 Houston (48) 25-2 up1 :|
2 Alabama (7) 23-4 down1
3 Kansas (7) 22-5 up2
4 UCLA 23-4 no change

11 Tennessee 20-7 down1
The Vols beat then #1 Alabama by 9, then lost to unranked @KY by 12. :headscratch:

13 Miami 22-5 up2 GoO ReallyGo

21 Northwestern 20-7 up5 GoGoCubsGoGo
22 San Diego State 21-5 down1

(29) Maryland 14 votes
(36) Duke 3 votes

No votes: Auburn, MT, UNC :( :( :(

UNC woes - it's hard to see how this isn't a coaching issue. Mostly the same players from last year, no serious injury issues. I don't know that Hubert's one good season should be enough to let him skate on this one. Sure, it's possible the 'Heels could shine in the ACC tournament, but it looks increasingly unlikely.

bammer is a lot like urban's murdering, eye gouging, thieving, no consequence gators.

Superstar "Brandon Miller brought the gun used on the Tuscaloosa strip killing of a woman that led to capital murder charges for his now former teammate"

Looks like the "former" guy didn't get coach's help.

Superstar Miller brought the loaded gun to the fight and used his car to block the victims car, yet Ms Tuscaloosa chief deputy D.A. Paula Whitley said, “That’s not a question I can answer. There’s nothing we could charge him with,’' according to the law, she said."

And coach Nate said that his superstar standout is “not in any trouble” as a result of his alleged involvement."

“Brandon hasn’t been in any type of trouble nor is he in any type of trouble in this case. Wrong spot at the wrong time,” Oats said."

Besides, we need him, or we don't win.

What's wrong with the Tar Heels? Lotta opinion/comments here, but I don't see anything that doesn't boil down to "bad coaching." If a coach gets championship results from mediocre players, you call him/her "great." What do you call one that gets mediocre results from championship players?
How about "ex"?

Ugh.
Armando Bacot passes Michael Jordan on UNC basketball all-time scoring list

Armando Bacot scored his 1,789th point from the free-throw line early in the second half of UNC's game against Duke on Sunday to move up a spot on the Tar Heels' all-time scoring list.
Michael who?

Not as big a deal as one might guess:
... Already North Carolina's all-time top rebounder, Bacot added another jewel to his crown with a jump to No. 14 on UNC's all-time scoring list in his senior season.

Tyler Hansbrough's 2,872 points rank No. 1 all-time for UNC men's basketball.
Ftr, Hansbrough was mediocre in seven NBA seasons and has since played in the NBA Development League, China and now Puerto Rico.

No, we just sucked against Kentucky.

My whine
We were ahead against bama for 59 minutes even with the bs from the refs. With 5 (?) minutes left we were up by 17. That's when our best started fouling out.
Example: their "comeback" started after our top scoring big guy, Broom, gets 5th bullshit foul with 7.5 minutes left. Their top scoring big guy jumps all over him, traps Broom's hand to his chest, spins and after throws him to the ground. Then he throws/slams the ball into Broom's head.
See video

Broom receives his 5th foul and is out. Nothing on the bammer player.
We did retaliate - our smallest guy went after the bammer big guy. He was definitely in the wrong but he received far more than he gave. He got a technical.
During all this, bammers bench and coaches rushed the court. In spite of ncaa rule, pretty much nothing was done - 2 easily missed players were ejected.

Without the multiple bs call in this one play, they lose by 10 or 15 points, but it got worse.
