Women's

7:00 PM, ESPN, Greenville, SC (unfair :x )
GO 2 Maryland (28-6) > 1 South Carolina (35-0) -14.5 ( :bs: )
Go Terps, wreck that perfect season.

9:00 PM, ESPN, Seattle
3 Ohio State (28-7) > 1 Virginia Tech (30-4) -3.0
I don't really care, but an Ohio State win will probably do less damage to my bracket. I had picked 6 UNC to win this game.

It's too bad "Monty" was forced to retire. Would have been great to see him leading the team out in the Final Four.

https://thedailyaztec.com/wp-content/up ... 34x900.jpg
Who or what is the mascot now? Wiki still says "Aztec Warrior".
Monty was fired in 2021, although there's no current intent to replace the "Aztec" name. Just get rid of the mascot and the spears, etc. No replacement yet. Maybe they could get a War Damn Seagull or something. Or steal a Canadian name, "Redblacks" - that should offend a bunch of people. I liked Monty - he was up there with Osceola in the top tier of mascots. Unlike either of my alma maters - a sheep and a duck (OK, Ibis)

Aw c'mon - that looks like a kid in a Halloween costume made out of pajamas. There are no real bears in Montana, or at least a pro-level bear suit?

I read in the Rameses article how the features got softened some to appeal to the kids visited in hospitals, etc. Maybe that's the case with Monte? -0-?

Otherwise, almost all mascot costumes enable athleticism. Maybe that's why the non-bearish body?

Your Monty Bear scores well on this list of "top 50" mascots.

No. 49: Rameses :D At least you made the list.
No. 42: Big Al(abama)
No. 30: Sebastian the Ibis

The U has the mascot that looks like an angry duck. However you choose to look at it, it's still cool to me.
No. 14: Masked Rider (Texas Tech)

Image
I approve.

No. 6: Aubie The Tiger - Oooh, so close. :P
No. 2: Monte
No. 1: Donald Duck
(Oregon)
:happy-cheerleaderkid: :happy-cheerleaderkid:

Some don't care about athleticism at all:
No. 5: Stanford Tree

Image

For a mascot that looks so poorly put together, it doesn't make it any less recognizable, or obnoxious for that matter.
No. 31: Big Green

Image

The only mascot in the country that is a keg. Way to go, Dartmouth College.

Not mentioned :( :

The Banana Slugs and Geoducks didn't make the list either.

Worst mascot job in the world might be the Nads, though

Yep, both should have made the list.

Of course, that would bump #50 AND #49. :P

I'm done scoring points now, and will certainly keep dropping in the ranking given the lack of any Cinderellas busting all brackets. :(

EDIT: 2 #1s, a #2 and a #3, pretty good seeding.
https://www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/bracket

I went 1/4 in the Elite 8, can't win any more games and will finish 38/63.
The leaders are 50/60 with 3 games remaining, and a bunch of people went 4/4 in the Elite 8.
My rank, which will fall, is #369,362.

So the CBS experts all unanimously pick UConn for the title. All of them. No wavering. And about half of them pick Florida Who over the Aztecs, which could happen of course, but still.

No respect.

2023 Mens NCAA Tournament Winner
Connecticut Huskies -125
San Diego State Aztecs +400
Miami (FL) Hurricanes +450
Florida Atlantic Owls +625

Surprising to me, FAWho:
6 campuses, main campus in Boca Raton;
>30K enrollment, one of the largest in the state;
"Florida Atlantic has long ranked as the most racially, ethnically and culturally diverse institution in Florida's State University System. U.S. News & World Report has ranked FAU the 27th most diverse university in the nation."

I'm pleased with the Final Four, no school that I hate.
I'll support you with 5 Miami > 4 UConn -5.5
As for 5 San Diego St -2 vs 9 FAU  O Really vs most Cinderella. -0-?

Funny geography - 2 from SoFL, 2 from opposite corners of the nation (NW corner is skunked :( ), 0 from the interior.

Dang, you shouldn't have posted that. If DeInsane sees it, he'll shut it down fershure. Of course, after DeSantis gets through, the "most racially ethnically and culturally diverse institution in Florida..." might only have 5 Black guys (basketball players) a handful of hispanic baseball and soccer players, and one Asian female golfer.

Opps, sorry. I hate lurking Fascist DerSantis.

Is it weird that the most diverse in Florida is only the 27th most diverse in the nation or is it okay?

27 is fine, I guess. Actually that's not top in the state, it's top in the state system. Nova is 4 or so in the nation. The diversity ranking seems to be a walnut scramble of black, Asian, and Hispanic with minority Caucasian.

Right, state system, thanks.

Villanova is in PA. Is there a different "Nova" in FL?
Edit: Never mind. 20K+ students and I've never heard of Nova Southeastern University. :problem:

Asian 11%
Black/African American 14%
Hispanic/Latino 36%
Two or more 3%
White/non-Hispanic 27%
Unknown 4%
Non-resident alien 5%
