Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Fuck the Legislature!
SC Supreme Court strikes down six-week abortion ban

A state law that bans most abortions about six weeks into pregnancy in South Carolina is unconstitutional.

The South Carolina Supreme Court ruled 3-2 to toss out the ban, also known as the Fetal Heartbeat Act. It was signed into law in 2021 and banned nearly all abortions in the state once cardiac activity was detected.

In the majority opinion, Justice Kaye Hearn wrote, “We hold that the decision to terminate a pregnancy rests upon the utmost personal and private considerations imaginable, and implicates a woman’s right to privacy. While this right is not absolute and must be balanced against the State’s interest in protecting unborn life, this Act, which severely limits—and in many instances completely forecloses—abortion, is an unreasonable restriction upon a woman’s right to privacy
and is therefore unconstitutional.”

... In a statement, Planned Parenthood South Atlantic President and CEO Jenny Black said, “This is a monumental victory in the movement to protect legal abortion in the South.”

... South Carolina law currently bans abortion at 20 weeks into pregnancy. State lawmakers return to Columbia on January 10th.

Might have been Atmore, Alabama where Steve Marshall was born and MAY have stayed through middle school. Or, maybe his high school years:
Southern Pines, North Carolina

Southern Pines was founded as a winter health resort for Northerners. As of 1898, it was a sundown town where African Americans were not allowed to reside or conduct business....

He's also a member of some cult-style money scam church, but has probably always been a righty. I don't know what it's like now, but at the time he was there, people with those types of views would probably not be very comfortable and would mostly be relegated to standing outside buildings in the cold a few social cuts below the smokers and people wearing NC State t-shirts.

It is alienating to be a conservative in Chapel Hill. In many of my classes, the word “Republican” holds the same weight as the word “Duke” at best or “racist” at worst (as a classmate directly told me). In a bathroom stall in Lenoir (the main dining hall on campus), someone etched the words “It’s not okay to be a Republican because it harms people.”

That atmosphere makes me second-guess myself. Last fall, I threw on my Reagan-Bush sweatshirt before heading to a coffee shop to Zoom into class. I then panicked and kept my camera off, fearing that my sweatshirt might draw unwanted attention or backlash from a classmate or professor.

That's very tolerant. Open misogynists did not fare so well at U of Montana :P . I once got berated for the extremely mild headline on an article I wrote for a student activist newspaper because it was supposedly somehow sexist. I did not write the headline.

"Last fall" he still had a Reagan-Bush sweatshirt? Sheeesh, must be tatters.

Silly panicky Republican, as my brother informed me NO students have their cameras on during Zoom classes.

Fear not, I'm on my way with a trunkful of hillbilly white lightning and abortion pills, two mutually supporting products.

CVS is likely to do the same thing. National companies don't have a habit of willful violation of state laws even if they're stupid and possibly unconstitutional laws.

I can understand that, however:
... Last month, the group of attorneys general sent a letter to CVS and Walgreens saying that if they sold mifepristone, they would be in violation of the Comstock Act, an 1873 law that makes it illegal to send contraceptives, substances that induce abortion, pornographic content, sex toys and any written material about these items.

Several of the states that signed the letter -- including Alaska, Iowa, Kansas and Montana -- currently allow abortion access, including abortion medication, according to the Guttmacher Institute, a research group focusing on sexual and reproductive health....
Bowing to illegal threats from misogynist AGs who have no authority to enforce ancient federal law is not acceptable.

I use an indy pharmacy, anyhow.

Let's see, how much do I make from selling this in Alaska, Iowa, Kansas and Montana? How much would it cost me to defend even a baseless lawsuit that I eventually win? Hmmmm. And then there's the possibility that if I don't sell it and blame the states that the people affected will elect different/better people. And if they don't? Well, there's other markets.

That's good if it works for you. Not so much once you're away from your home area, though.
