One of the basketball players after last olympics commented on why they weren't the stars the soccer team was, saying "we're not little white girls with blonde ponytails..." and I suppose there could be some truth to that, although stars like Rapinoe don't exactly fit that mold.

The soccer stars have been White even if otherwise non-stereotypical, though I think Trinity Rodman will break that mold. Rapinoe, etc did have to fight for equal pay, but that was after the national team was so much better than the men for so many years. Otoh, male basketball superstars are mostly Black. Maybe it's just Black women that get dissed?
