A majority of Alabama voters want Tuberville to end his blockade of military promotions

Hey, here's a not-surprise. A new poll shows that 58% of Alabama voters want Sen. Coach Tommy Tuberville to end his one-man blockade of the nation's top military promotions.

The specific language of the poll was whether voters believe Tuberville "has made his point" and should "now allow" the promotions to move forward. Just 36% of voters said Sen. Football should continue to block promotions "endlessly." Another 45% say Tuberville's action has made them view him less favorably.

None of this is good news for Tuberville, who has made a name for himself during his brief Senate career mostly for stunts like this and for being racist. Tuberville has premised his unilateral hold on top-end military promotions on the military's new post-Roe policies allowing administrative leave and travel cost reimbursements to service members stationed in anti-abortion states who must travel elsewhere for abortion care.

Tuberville is also claiming that the cancellation of plans to move Space Command headquarters from Colorado to Alabama is meant as retaliation against his blockade. The Biden administration is claiming that's not true, and that they're just reversing another one of the last-minute Trump decisions the seditionist and his allies tried to saddle them with before leaving the White House, but Tuberville has been claiming it's true in front of his own voters. It's quite possible they believe him, and just as possible that he's now convinced them he's to blame for losing out on that prestige because of his one-man blockade....

We don't know one way or the other, and it wouldn't bother me if it is retaliation, but it's not very smart of Mr Tuberhead to be whining that it's his own fault.

... While a slim majority -- 54 percent -- of respondents agree with Tuberville’s position that the DOD policies should be reversed, 58 percent of those polled said the senator “has made his point and should now allow senior military promotions to move forward,” the poll found.

Another 36 percent of respondents said the senator “should continue to block all senior military promotions endlessly,” while 13 percent were unsure of what Tuberville should do.

Respondents who cast ballots for Donald Trump in 2020 -- who comprised 58 percent of the poll’s sampling -- were split on Tuberville’s block, with 41 percent saying he should stand down and 40 percent supporting the senator’s move.

That's a lot of Trumpettes opposing Mr Tuberhead.

Nearly three in four voters said the promotions of military officers “should be free from politics.” Tuberville’s hold is freezing the nominations of more than 300 officers, including President Biden’s nominee for chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

A plurality of voters -- 45 percent -- said they view Tuberville less favorably since learning of his tactics, while 26 percent said they view him more favorably. Another 23 percent said the hold hasn’t made a difference in their opinion of Alabama’s senior senator while 6 percent said they were unsure.

A majority of voters -- 55 percent -- said they believe Tuberville’s hold hurts national security, while 25 percent said it has no impact on national security. Another 9 percent said the senator’s move helps national security while 11 percent were unsure....

In a fact sheet Tuberville’s office dubbed “The Real Threat To Readiness: Joe Biden’s Extreme Agenda,” the senator cited the discharge of 8,000 soldiers for refusing to take the COVID-19 vaccine

States like people to be residents, because they can collect taxes. They're less lenient about certifying domicile because then you can vote and run for office. Residence is often determined by how much of the year you stay somewhere, or whether you have a job in state or send your kids to school. Domicile is more what might be considered your "real home" no matter where else you roam. It's not always completely determined by whether you currently have a real dwelling. In the case of congresscritters, they're probably legal residents of Virginia or somewhere, but are legally domiciled in their home state. So fixing the residence requirements isn't all that simple, but I'd agree that House members should be required to have some real, demonstrable, and significant connection with their district, and Senators with their state.

It's not so clear whether Santa Rosa Beach, Florida resident Mr Tuberhead is still a legal AL Senator. Detailed discussion of Tommy's situation and residency requirements in general:
