I saw on TV that Dancing with the Stars winner Laurie Hernandez
is hoping to earn a spot on the U.S. women's gymnastic team for the Tokyo Olympics 23 July to 8 August and add to her 2016 team gold and balance beam silver.

Simone Biles lands never-before-seen vault, blows away field in first tournament since 2019

...

Appearing in her first gymnastics tournament since October 2019, the 2016 Olympic all-around gold medalist dominated the field at the U.S. Classic and did something no woman has done before on the vault....

That routine received an event-best score of 14.850. She followed that up with an even more electric floor exercise set to a remix of the main theme from "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift." She again topped the competition with a 14.250 score.

As USA Gymnastics noted, two of the moves performed were named after Biles.

The biggest moment came on Biles' third event though. All of the buzz entering the tournament was about Biles preparing to attempt a Yurchenko double pike on the vault, a move that has never been performed by a woman in competition.

She landed it:

The final event of the evening, the uneven bars, was the only one in which Biles didn't dominate the field, due to a fall midway through a routine.

Even with a 15th place finish in the bars, Biles still took the all-around title with a total score of 58.400, with Biles' gym-mate Jordan Chiles taking second and bars winner Kayla DiCello in third.

Bars hiccup aside, it was a triumphant return for Biles, who will attempt to become the first woman to win back-to-back Olympic all-around gold medals since Vera Caslavska in 1964 and 1968
 :-|| All hail the Queen.

Roster: 19. Can't all compete in a meet, can they?
Edit:
... The tentative lineup features two seniors, four juniors, one sophomore and three freshmen.
10 still seems like a lot, but better than 19.
Ringer:

Good luck.

Edit 2: Where does Auburn get its "No. 14" ranking? I looked at Yahoo, NBC, Fox, ESPN and USAToday to see if UNC is ranked - no gymnastics sections :x . The NCAA doesn't have any rankings but links to the College Gymnastics Association rankings. Oddly, it only lists:
1 Michigan
2 Georgia

Close one vs UNC. Congrats x 2!

The College Gymnastics Association rankings has expanded its rankings now. Auburn is #6, behind the SEC's #2 Florida, #4 LSU and #5 Missouri.

North Carolina is #9 - East Atlantic Gymnastics League, not ACC. -0-?

Olympic gold medalist Sunisa Lee lands move never before seen in college gymnastics

Sunisa Lee remains good at gymnastics, be it the Olympics or the collegiate level.

The Tokyo Games gold medallist put on a show in a meet against Kentucky, highlighted with her performance of the nabieva on the uneven bars, a maneuver that had never been seen before in college gymnastics.

The nabieva consists laying out vertically over the high bar, swinging around, then passing over the bar backwards before grabbing it again. It's an exceptionally difficult skill, rated as a "G," the hardest possible rating, and something that Lee used to win gold in the all-around in Tokyo.

That routine landed Lee a 9.975, meaning one judge gave her a 10 and the other a 9.950.

Lee would score even higher on the beam, where she landed 10s across the board, the first Auburn gymnast to ever do so at Auburn Arena, per the program.

Those two performances helped Auburn post a 197.925-197.150 win over the Wildcats, the highest score in program history.

Auburn is #5, behind #3 Florida and just ahead of #6 LSU and #7 Alabama in the SEC, before this meet vs KY is factored in.

KY is #69, so it may not count for much.

A teammate

https://oanow.com/sports/college/auburn ... a34ab.html

‘Home is Auburn’: From China to Iowa to the Plains, Sophia Groth finds family

"It was raining the day they found her, abandoned on the street in the Hunan province of China. It was cold, too. Karen looked up that day’s weather later. Sophia was found at around 5:30 in the morning when she was four days old, and officials took her to the orphanage."

"At 12 years old, she won beam at the Junior Olympics national championship meet in 2015."

"No. 6 Auburn faces No. 3 Florida on Friday night for an epic meet in Auburn Arena, with a claim to the SEC’s regular-season championship on the line."

Pretty cool that she picked Auburn over all the big name gymnastic schools.

Looks like Auburn is making a good run at being one of the "big name" gymnastic schools.

Weird. Auburn dropped a slot to #6 behind LSU after stomping KY. Good luck.

We narrowly missed a share of the SEC title. What a show by both. There were three 10s. The final score was a tie at 198.575. That's less than 1.5 from perfect.

It was a record breaking best score for both teams.

Nice. Did you move past LSU for SEC 2nd? This site has not been updated yet.

Yeah, I watched some. Sorry, but 4th ain't bad for a team that's never been champion. Utah, Oklahoma and Florida, in that order, have all won multiple times.
Team titles

At least Derrian Gobourne took silver in the Uneven bars and Floor, and Suni Lee took silver in the Individual all-around and GOLD in the Balance beam.
