AGT

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Qualifier 4 (August 30)
Results tonight 8:00 PM EDT, NBC, just 2 of 11 acts will advance to the finals.

I've slacked on sharing acts that I like this summer. Here's one:

10-Year-Old Harper Screams "Bad Habits" by Ed Sheeran feat. Bring Me The Horizon

  Who doesn't like tween thrash metal? Her stunning audition was even better:

10-Year-Old Harper Screams "Holy Roller" and Shocks the Judges

Edit: In the #6-11 bunch, headed back to England. :( America just isn't evolved enough.

The Mayyas Are JUST UNBELIEVABLE On The America's Got Talent Finale!

They won!!! There may have been a lot of votes from the Middle East, but I'm still proud of America for choosing a presumably mostly Muslim dance troupe from Lebanon.

Good year for foreign dancers. #2 was a pole dancer/video artist from Australia, Kristy Sellars.

America's Got Talent: All-Stars
Only one Golden Buzzer and one other act out of ten advance each night. Votes are by "Super Fans", not the general public. Weekend reruns are the norm.
Preliminary 1 (January 2)

My favorites, more or less in descending order:

Golden Buzzer: Light Balance Kids Delivers an Unforgettable Performance
Ukrainian dance group (with techno enhancement) receives the Golden Buzzer from Howie Mandel.

Terry Fator Performs Unforgettable Ventriloquism
Genius! Came in 2nd. :(

Prepare to be Amazed by Alan Silva's Impressive Aerial Act
Incredible 'little person' (is that the PC term?).

The Bello Sisters Bend Reality With Amazing Acrobatics
Came in 1st, advanced.

One other act was popular with the "Super Fans":

Caly Bevier Wows The Crowd With an Original Song, "Head Held High"
Came in 3rd.

America's Got Talent (season 18)
Premiere
Acts I enjoyed (all advanced):

I thought that I would hate these guys, but . . .
ROCK ON! Metal Band Gets Standing Ovation from All Judges on AGT 2023!
:-||

You Won't Believe Trigg Watson's Mind-Blowing Digital Magic | Auditions | AGT 2023

I wasn't expecting to like this:
D'Corey Johnson: 11-Year-Old Covers "Open Arms" By Journey | Auditions | AGT 2023

Watch Three G's Dramatic Heart-Stopping Acrobatic Audition | Auditions | AGT 2023
3 falls. I'm glad they're getting another shot (pro-Ukraine bias?), but they will have to do perfect routines from here on out, if they even survive the judges' cut.

My top two favorites:

Shadow Ace Shines on the AGT Stage with Unforgettable Audition | Auditions | AGT 2023
I literally LOLed.

Golden Buzzer: Mzansi Youth Choir's Emotional Tribute Brings Simon To Tears | Auditions | AGT 2023
Nightbirde

Jane Kristen Marczewski (December 29, 1990 – February 19, 2022), known professionally as Nightbirde, was an American singer-songwriter.

Previously having released two EPs and several singles, Nightbirde auditioned on America's Got Talent in 2021, where she received a Golden Buzzer for her original song "It's OK". However, she decided to withdraw from AGT before the quarterfinals, because of worsening health due to cancer. Marczewski died on February 19, 2022, after keeping the battle with cancer a secret. She was 31 years old.
What a powerful tribute last night!

Britain's Got Talent (series 16)

The sixteenth series of British talent competition programme Britain's Got Talent began on ITV1 from 15 April 2023, and is again presented by Ant & Dec. For the first time since 2012, the judging panel changed following David Walliams's resignation from the series after ill-received comments made about several contestants during series 14. On 24 January 2023, ITV announced that Bruno Tonioli would serve as his replacement....

The cover of Running Up That Hill was good, but she should've used the original.

Kate Bush could dance, too!
 The Misha Hervieu masks look like Randy Rainbow to me, 3:10.
This might explain why Lillianna Clifton used a cover:
... Stranger Things and 2022 chart resurgence

"Running Up That Hill" gained renewed attention in May 2022 after it was featured in the fourth season of the Netflix series Stranger Things, including as a key diegetic piece used during a dramatic scene, being an important element in the plot, and as a recurring fixture of the soundtrack. Bush had rarely allowed her songs to be licensed, but agreed because she was a fan of the show. Following the premiere, Spotify revealed streams for the song increased by 9,900% in the United States....
Idk that Bush was asked and refused, but the producers might have just deemed it easier to use a cover.

The only truly live performance I could find, with David Gilmore! I don't think she ever really toured.

Think he "discovered" her.

Yep.

One tour at 20 years old. Must have hated it.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kate_Bush ... _Lionheart
... Following the release of Lionheart, she was required by EMI to undertake heavy promotional work and an exhausting tour. The Tour of Life began in April 1979 and lasted six weeks. It was described by The Guardian as "an extraordinary, hydra-headed beast, combining music, dance, poetry, mime, burlesque, magic and theatre". The show was co-devised and performed on stage with magician Simon Drake. Bush was involved in every aspect of the production, choreography, set design, costume design and hiring. The shows were noted for her dancing, complex lighting and her 17 costume changes per show. Because of her need to dance as she sang, sound engineers used a wire coat hanger and a radio microphone to fashion a headset microphone; it was the first use by a rock performer since the Spotnicks used a rudimentary version in the early 1960s.
Cool. Made standard by Madonna, Michael Jackson, etc just a very few years later.

Found this:
... Bush turned down an invitation to perform at the 2012 Summer Olympics closing ceremony in London. Instead, a new vocal remix of her 1985 single "Running Up That Hill" was played. In 2013, Bush became the only female artist to have top five albums in the UK charts in five successive decades.
