In Memoriam

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Cause we don't have one of these.

Burt Reynolds

Never was a huge fan, but he did some fun stuff.

Same here, always kinda liked him, but never sure why.
My ex-MIL's sister was his first grade teacher. He was on one of the first semi-nole football teams with Lee Corso. He was a great dickhead in a movie based on a Carl Hiaasen book. Deliverance was probably his best showing.

82 - he had a long and interesting life. He probably made a lot of money on cannonball run and the Smokey movies.

I would agree that bedding down Sally Fields and Loni Anderson would rate right up there at the top of "interesting" ... :D

As I said, there was some serious good and superficial bubblegum.

I enjoyed most of Burt's films. Mostly light-weight entertainment that was fun. I don't recall what if anything Loni Anderson was in except for "WKRP in Cincinnati" but I remember one of her best lines there. She was sitting at her desk with gift packages all stacked up around her. Somebody came by and asked about the gifts. She replied "I'm a receptionist - I receive."

I have no idea what she was as a person, but her wkrp character was about as life-like as a Barbie doll with extra makeup and way too much hairspray.

I took her (don't I wish!) to be the proverbial hot dumb blonde. Did I mention she had headlights?

Rotten Tomatoes:

All Burt Reynolds Movies Ranked

I don't think I ever saw #1 Sharky's Machine (1981).
I liked #2 Deliverance (1972) and #3 Boogie Nights (1997).
A lot of crap, too. Only 18 of 55 got above 50%.

I'd seen about 10 of them. I'd put Deliverance first, followed by Best Friends. Best friends not only had some of the funniest scenes ever, but it was a really good set of lessons on maintaining (or wrecking) a relationship. Funny scene here...

Really? No wonder your #2 is Rotten Tomatoes' #19, liked by only 50% of critics and 28% of the audience. :P

Yeah, well, maybe you had to be there in the original, and maybe you had to be toking a bit. But I still think it was a much better film than the ratings.

Just pulling your chain, I'm pretty sure I never saw it.

Ron Dellums Maintained a ‘Relentless Faith in Our Ability to Make a Better World’
The former congressman, who has died at 82, was a proud battler for peace and justice who took the activism of the streets to Congress.

I somehow missed that he died on July 30, 2018. He was my congressional rep. in fact for a year or so, and in spirit for much longer than that. RIP

Marty Balin, founder of Jefferson Airplane, dies at 76

Once one of my favorite groups. RIP

Stan Lee: ‘The Man’ Behind the Comic-Book Superhero Myths

I was more of a DC comics kid, but Marvel movies kick ass.
