In Memoriam

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Heh, you beat me to this. I just read it on yahoo news about an hour ago. Loved watching her being serenaded by Chevy Chase after he snorted that salt, bit the lemon, and tossed the tequila over his shoulder.

Thinking about one of our nation's darkest times also means recalling its heroes:
Jean Maria Arrigo, Who Exposed Psychologists’ Ties to Torture, Dies at 79

Jean Maria Arrigo, a psychologist who exposed efforts by the American Psychological Association to obscure the role of psychologists in coercive interrogations of terror suspects in the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, died on Feb. 24 at her home in Alpine, Calif. She was 79....

Joe Lieberman, 2000 vice presidential nominee, dies at 82

Good riddance. He, Montana's Baucus and some Midwest Sen prevented single payer debate, killed the public option and otherwise made the ACA much worse than most Americans, the majority Dems and Obama wanted.

Rest poorly.

In 2023, Lieberman reemerged as the public face of No Labels, a political organization designed to give Americans a third option in elections, one designed to restore civility and bring unity to the process.

Lieberman's family stated that he died "due to complications from a fall.
Cue the conspiracy nuts.

The Tropicana Las Vegas, a mob-era casino and Sin City landmark, closes after 67 years

A little sad, same age as me. I've been there, but it was decades ago and it doesn't stand out from the other casinos in my memory. I did not check out the Folies Bergere, which I regret. Metaphorically, I'm also worn, stained, tattered and past my prime, but I'm still kicking and no one is replacing me with a baseball stadium - though I suppose I was already replaced with an interchangeable nurse

Buncha half-naked showgirls dancing isn't really my thing. Hence, I never went. However, I almost feel like I should be able to say that I had the experience like you did -0-? I've been to stripper bars 3 times. Didn't really enjoy myself, but at least I tried it.

It wasn't titillating, it wasn't artsy....it was however cheesy. Like something that trump supporters would think is high class lifestyles of the rich and famous.

Caitlyn Jenner’s 2-Word Send-Off To O.J. Simpson Is Pure Ice
The football star died of cancer at the age of 76.

... “Good Riddance #OJSimpson,” the Olympian tweeted Thursday morning, just hours after Simpson’s family announced he had died of cancer at the age of 76.

Jenner has long had sour feelings for Simpson.

In her 2017 memoir “The Secrets of My Life,” she described her fellow athlete as “the most narcissistic, egocentric, neediest asshole in the world of sports I had ever seen.”

... “I knew he did it,” Jenner told Andy Cohen in 2017. “There was three people at the crime scene: DNA evidence, three people at the crime scene. Pick a murderer. How hard is that?”...

Heisman Trophy’s O.J. Simpson Tribute Belongs In Hall Of Shame
Critics slammed the tribute as “completely unnecessary” and “embarrassing.”

The Heisman Trophy Trust has been slammed after it seriously fumbled its tribute to football Hall of Famer O.J. Simpson, who died from cancer at age 76.

The organization behind college football’s most prestigious individual award drew blowback after it shared a photograph of Simpson on X (formerly Twitter) and said it “mourns the passing” of the 1968 Heisman Trophy winner.

“We extend our sympathy to his family,” it added. A short, six-paragraph obituary on Simpson was also posted on the Heisman Trophy Trust website.

...
:puke-left:
I mourn for the Browns and Goldmans and send them my sympathy. But you do you.
i feel genuinely bad for the person on the heisman trophy socials team who was pleading with everyone else "please don't post an oj post, we're going to get destroyed" only for some uppity up to be like "he was a legend of our game" lmfao
Not posting was an option.
They made Reggie Bush give back his Heisman
One of the most frustrating things to witness in comms is when someone (a team, a leader, anyone) clearly said “we have to post something about this.” You really, really don’t. The reactions to/shares of this are 100x worse than random people noticing you didn’t post.
More disappointed tweets at the link.

The Los Angeles Times was better:
😬 LA Times accidentally uses the name "Trump" in place of "Simpson" near the end of their obit:

George Conway

Understandable mistake. It can be hard to keep all these clearly guilty sociopaths straight.
Perfect Freudian slip. He completely deserves to be there.
May this be a prophecy!

From tweeters' fingertips to god's ear:

Reggie Bush gets 2005 Heisman Trophy back in formal 'reinstatement' (by Heisman Trust)

:happy-cheerleaderkid:
... The Heisman Trust wasn't moved by Bush's plea, and refused to return his 2005 trophy to him until the NCAA reinstated him. And despite the NIL rules changing, the NCAA said it wouldn't be making any changes to its stats.

Bush was still elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 2023 despite his Heisman having been vacated, but his desire to reclaim his trophy had not diminished. In Aug. 2023 Bush announced he was suing the NCAA for defamation in the hopes of forcing them to reinstate his records, which could have also led to him getting his trophy back.

Now, even without that suit having been resolved, the Heisman Trust will reinstate Bush on Wednesday and return his trophy. It's unclear whether this will have any bearing on Bush's standing with the NCAA or the lawsuit.
:( Then, there's the matter of the USC records, stats and 2004 BCS national championship that were nullified because Bush played.
