Everywhere I worked up until maybe late 80's, workplace romances were pretty much a norm. Then came the harassment suits and before long most people were afraid to say "pretty sweater, Jennifer" without adding "no offence." Of course, back then alcohol at lunch wasn't taboo and company holiday parties sometimes got people fired but were certainly not dull staid affairs.
