That other New Jersey football team the Jets has habitually and chronically pissed off most of Puerto Rico and more importantly, the Sharks.

Agree.

... The name and logo are not as offensive as with DC and Cleveland, who have changed, but the chant, chop and cosplay are. IMO if half of a target group are bothered, that's sufficient reason to go a new direction.

GO BENGALS!
Is it possible to have the name and logo without the chant, chop and cosplay, though? Sadly, I highly doubt it.

Those who are offended say they don't want to be anybody's "mascot", which they see as disrespectful. But the thing is, teams don't usually pick names they don't respect. They are, after all, taking on the identity or aura of the mascot. OK, UC Santa Cruz and Rhode Island School of Design might be suspect, but most teams' names are intended to reflect positively. You have your Eagles, but no buzzards or turkeys. Packers represents a primary industry and team sponsor in Green Bay when the team was formed. Steelers wear the logo of the steel industry on their helmets. Forty-Niners reflect the history of gold rush and Oklahoma "Sooners" were the early settlers. Of course, those sooners often stole land from the Indians so we're back around. Team names like "Robber Barons", "Mafia", "Slavers" and "Republicans" are available, but not selected for obvious reasons.

While I'm on a roll, the New York (Jersey) football team has long used a stereotyped term that is insensitive to those challenged with Gigantism, (pediatric acromegaly and pituitary gigantism). While the numbers of people with this condition is not as high as the small people formerly known as "midgets" or "dwarfs", and thus their protest and lobbying strength may not be as powerful, they are nonetheless disrespected in the frivolous use of the term "Giants" and its related connotations.
Are any irl Giants complaining? If so, I wouldn't want to mess with them. ;)
I don't think so. I think they're all playing basketball and don't follow football or baseball.

Charles Byrne, however, would probably object to having a team named for him.

All of Oklahoma's White settlers did that. "Sooners were essentially stealing from other white settlers by cheating on the claim requirements to get better land" by jumping the official start time. Weird that Oklahoma honors them now. They were double slime.

Wrong football. But that does bring up a good point on names, though, where some teams take on the name of otherwise undesirable events, such as Chicago Fire. You've got Hurricanes, Storms, Earthquakes, Avalanche, Tornado - and if you get deep into minor leagues there's much worse (better).

The NFL is indeed the "No Fun League" in comparison.

Raiders and Buccaneers are a little shady, but that's about as dark as it gets.

Cleveland Brownouts? Los Angeles Battering Rams? Buffalo Utility Bills?

Only if you don't make a lame effort to tie it in to Baltimore's most famous poet and the replacement Baltimore team name.

When will San Diego have an NFL team?
"Nevermore" :P

Super Bowl 57 Odds, descending order
Philadelphia Eagles
Kansas City
Cincinnati Bengals
San Francisco 49ers

That looks Purdy pessimistic about the 49ers, but the differences aren't great and I think it's more a statement about the Eagles' strength rather than saying that the 49ers are worse than KC and the Bengals. The AFC game is slightly more of a tossup.

NFL Odds
Philadelphia Eagles -2.5
Kansas City -1.5
Good games are predicted.

Sun, 1/29

3:00 PM EST, TV: FOX
49ers 13-4 @Eagles 14-3. Go football!

6:30 PM EST, TV: CBS
GO Bengals 12-4 > @Kansas City 14-3
Silence that chant early.

I'm happy with Iggles or 49ers for different reasons, but yeah - let's get a good game and no blowout.

I think Bengals have beaten KC twice(?) already. Might be tough to get another. Or not.

December 4, 2022 Won at home 27–24.
January 2, 2021 Won at home 34–31
AFC Championship January 30, 2021 Won at Kansas City 27–24 (OT)
They did not play each other in 2020 and the Bengals did not make the postseason. Brady Bay beat KC in Super Bowl LV.

I think I'm seeing a pattern here, and I'll bet KC is pissed off over it. My prediction Bengals 34–31. ;)
