So in the 1972 Super Bowl where the hated Cowboys beat the Dolphins, if you were going to be around or willing to go to New Orleans, it was a realistic discussion a few weeks ahead of "maybe we get Super Bowl tickets". Tickets were available and with a somewhat affordable range for regular sorts of people. Lowest price was $15. Now the lowest price is $8K if you could get them. To see how the event and its related greed has grown, the 1972 price factored by inflation is still a little over a hundred dollars.

We decided not to go, and the 'Phins lost anyway, but imagine the difference from now.

Wow, that game broke open fast. Purdy purdy well done after a 1st possession elbow nerve injury. 4th string! SF QB Johnson dropped a giveaway fumble late in the 2nd. :problem:

Wow, Johnson getting concussion exam in 3rd - Purdy back in, McCaffrey! is the next option. SF defensive penalties may be an even bigger story. :angry-banghead:
Nah, I still like them both, but this is getting ugly.

Jackie Slater was a R-OT for the losing Rams in Super Bowl XIV. They didn't throw to him  . Steelers won 31-19, their 4th win during that 1970s run.

You mean the Cowboys' Jackie Smith in Super Bowl XIII:
... Staubach spotted 38-year-old reserve tight end Jackie Smith wide open in the end zone and threw him the ball. Head coach Tom Landry said Staubach tried to throw the ball soft when he saw how wide open Smith was and that it came in low, and that when Smith tried to stop, his feet seemed to come out from under him. Jackie Smith states that it was still a catchable ball and that he should have made the play. Instead, Smith dropped the pass and the Cowboys had to settle for a field goal from kicker Rafael Septién, cutting their deficit to 21–17. Though Smith played 16 years in the league and is now enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, he is perhaps best known for this dropped touchdown, particularly in a championship game that was ultimately decided by four points.

35-31, the Steelers' third.
Marcus Allen reversing field.

Super Bowl XVIII, Oakland romp over DC 38–9. I hated it.
... On the next play, the last play of the third quarter, Plunkett handed the ball off to Allen, who started to run left as the play was designed. But after taking an unusually wide turn in that direction (he later confessed, "I messed up."), Allen saw a lot of defenders in front of him and cut back to the middle before taking off for a then-Super Bowl record 74-yard touchdown run, increasing L.A.'s lead to 35–9 (Allen's run broke the previous record of 58 yards set by Tom Matte in Super Bowl III). This play would later be immortalized by one of the last great lines from narrator John Facenda, who said, "As Washington's hopes faded into the dying daylight, on came Marcus Allen, running with the night."

That game also featured a Redskins blunder that will live in infamy.
Ray Guy's 27-yard punt pinned Washington back at their own 12-yard line with 12 seconds left in the half. From there, head coach Joe Gibbs had Theismann run a screen play called "Rocket Screen", but Raiders linebacker Jack Squirek intercepted the pass and returned it for a touchdown to give the Raiders a 21–3 halftime lead. The defense was prepared for the play, as Theismann had successfully completed an identical screen pass to Joe Washington for a 67-yard gain in their 37–35 victory over the Raiders on October 2. In fact, Los Angeles linebackers coach Charlie Sumner had sent Squirek onto the field as a last-second substitution specifically to cover Washington. "I was mad," said linebacker Matt Millen, who had to run off the field to avoid a penalty. "I'd called a blitz, and I was cranked up for it, but he told Jack to play the screen and sent him in. I guess Charlie knows what he's doing, huh?"[9]
Knew the game was over then.

Side note, Mickey Marvin starting guard on the Raiders was a Hendersonville native. He passed a few years ago from ALS. He was a super nice guy, wore his ring ( he had two) and loved chatting football.

Took my dog for a walk in the snow.

Actually feel bad for the Niners. To get that far, have the potential feel good story of the decade then lose two QBs.

Snarky analyst in KC, paraphrased: Purdy started and finished the game without a single incompletion, but they lost by 24.

I feel sorry for Ossai. Incurring that penalty was worse than something like a missed kick, dropped pass or fumble. Maybe KC will take him.
