Start of the Pacific Crest Trail. Obviously not very conducive to much of a walk, but supposedly it gets better once out of the desert. Lots fewer through-hike it than the Appalachian, but it gets a lot of day use further north.

A couple of days ago Antiques Roadshow was at the Hotel del Coronado, across the bay from San Diego. It's an old large wooden building with unique architecture. I think they said it's the largest wooden building in CA. And NAB Coronado is where the navy trains its SEALS.

What happens if this funding lapse keeps dragging on? Do we eventually reach a point where the airports just shut down? That would be catastrophic. It's not a requirement to actually use the TSA to handle security. The SF airport uses a private company. Maybe we'll see more of that. I've got a flight mid May

Little bit of everything.

Airlines are already cutting back on flights to relieve congestion . There has been talk of airport shutdowns and I read there are 20 or so airports that contract out their security.

That may be the way in the future, until there's a failure and pols start screaming for the gubmint to take it back over.

What they're saying:
In response to the delays, President Donald Trump said on Sunday he plans to deploy Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to airports across the country starting Monday to assist at security checkpoints impacted by the ongoing shutdown.

Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens has confirmed federal agents will be sent to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Monday morning.

"According to federal officials, these personnel will be assigned to support operational needs directed by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), including line management and crowd control within the domestic terminals," Dickens said. "Federal officials have indicated that this deployment is not intended to conduct immigration enforcement activities."

ICE agents are supposed to report directly to TSA.

Curious if they'll be armed and wearing masks.
