Why was Obama’s birth certificate such a big deal to republicans?

Unread post by billy.pilgrim »

Better yet, why weren’t they embarrassed by such a bullshit story – especially in light of McCain actually being born in a foreign country.

Also, as his mother was American, wouldn't he have had a birthright citizenship even if he was born as an ex-pat?

They pretend that foreign military bases - like with McCain in Panama - are US soil like embassies, but they're not. Otoh, Ted Cruz - Canada - doesn't even have that excuse.

Most legal scholars think so, though the courts have never decided. The clause was meant to keep foreign aristocrats from becoming POTUS, not to exclude actual Americans that happened to be born abroad. If the legal scholars are correct, POSPOTUS and the other whiny    birfers    are even dumber than we already know them to be.

... Nonetheless, both U.S. and Canadian authorities opined that Cruz was in fact a dual U.S.-Canadian citizen: ...

All of that is now moot, however, because in 2013 Ted Cruz took steps to formally renounce any claim to Canadian citizenship: ...

That process of renunciation was accomplished by May of 2014: ...

In May of 2014 the Government of Canada issued a certificate acknowledging Ted Cruz’s renunciation of Canadian citizenship as of 14 May 2014.
14 May is now a Canadian national holiday.

Take a closer look. The military base hospital where they claim he was born wasn't built until a couple of years later. His own website said he was born in a Panamanian hospital in Panama City.

And then there was Goldwater.

They knew they could tap into the inherent racism of a lot of GOP fans; same with McCain; it was no problem....he's white

My bad - They pretend that military vaginas are US soil like embassies, but they're not.

The argument is that one has to be born in America, not in a state. Good point, though, will we have another    birfer    tantrum if someone a Dem born in Puerto Rico runs?

They would freak out.

Also, wasn't Romney's dad born in Mexico after his parents denounced their US citizenship? His dad ran for the repug nomination.

btw - it looks like the crowd that ran the b.s. Benghazi investigation is after Schiff for being too partisan.

His dad ran for the repug nomination.

Romney's grandfather fled the US because polygamy was banned here. He said "hey, hey, my, my, polygamy will never die." Neil Young later wrote a song based on this lyric.
