Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

A headline you don't see very often:

"Authorities issue warning after aggressive sea otter seen going after surfers in Santa Cruz"

https://abc7news.com/sea-otter-steals-s ... /13490929/

Image

An otter in California is on the run from local and federal authorities, wanted for aggressively confronting locals and stealing surfboards at a popular beach. But its outlaw status has turned the slippery sea otter into an international icon, with growing support to leave her in the wild.

The 5-year-old female otter, known officially as otter 841, has been deemed a public safety risk by state and federal wildlife officials

"There are several petitions circulating online in support of 841's freedom, one of which has gathered over 50,000 signatures."

Probably everybody knows, Santa Cruz is a major surfing town. They couldn't ask for better promotional material and they're fools if they don't just let 841 keep doing her thing.

People are showing up just to root for 841 (and against wildlife officials and Monterey Bay Aquarium staff :) ). Good opportunity for a food truck and a popup merch stand.

The locals are way ahead of us:

Businesses capitalizing otter 841 mania with new merchandise, boosting local economy

When state govt is well-run and responsive from the top down Californians feel good about pitching in to do their part:
This bear is helping keep drivers safe

Caltrans posted a video of a bear out for a walk when it comes to an orange traffic cone that was tipped over on its side.

The bear stops, grabs the cone in its teeth, and stands it back upright.

Satisfied with a job well done, the bear continued down the road....
That's incredible.

Another Mary Esther bear video in the news:

A Florida woman yelled and hollered to scare off a nosy bear approaching her home. She later apologized to the spooked bear.
