What are you watching?

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

We get a free Apple TV+ with our T-Mobile subscription. New. Haven't tried it yet.
I actually forgot I have access to it also. I'll give it a gander.
Season 1 of Ted Lasso is funny stuff.

Yeah, I have a Comcast connection, but it's internet only. $30/mo until next spring, at which time I'll have to renegotiate.

And you have a ROKU if you can find it.

OK, found the ROKU. Still in the box.

Might try to hook it up by the end of the year.

I don't know what kind of ROKU you got, but my "hook up" consisted of plugging it into the HDMI slot in the TV, changing "input' from HDMI3 (the satellite) to HDMI1 (where I plugged it), introducing it to the network connection and that's it. Pretty much the definition of "plug and play."

Getting the satellite to work properly originally, however, was a real bitch.

OK, what I plan on doing is hooking up the ROKU to one of the combo DVDR/VCR units. I just haven't checked them to see if they have HDMI inputs. If so, should be easy. If not, could be another puzzle to solve.

Maybe his TV is still a CRT?

I don't know why it would be needed to record something that can always be accessed anytime you want it. But I suppose it might be possible to record from the TV output if the connections/cable were compatible with the DVR. But the VCR side I'm pretty sure is analog and isn't going to be happy with a digital signal.

Enlighten us, Ulysses - what creative wiring are you planning?

Welp, Neo has an extension cord if needed.

Yeah, but I thought he'd probably need to use that to run from the neighbor's house to power all that vacuum tube equipment he's got.

OK, wise guys. I've checked the equipment and have a plan.

I'll let you know how it works out.

I might even share the details if you behave yourselves.

Does it involve plugging your ROKU into to your HDMI port and an outlet and turning it on?

What he needed is a Roku Express+ with RCA output, which isn't available anymore. The HDMI output of the Roku is HDCP encoded so your recorder won't record the output even if it does have an HDMI input.
