2024 Elections

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

That's a few Congresscritters that are running leaving open seats.

Yeah, but they're all in safe districts. Weakest is probably Porter, and she won 51.6% - 48.4%.

Caveat to my post above: Padilla is the senator from southern CA. Maaaybe IMO that would elevate northerner Khanna above Porter, and northerner Lee above Schiff. -0-?
We don't want to go dividing up senators into northern and southern. I don't mind if the Bay area gets one, but large parts of the "real" northern California would vote in some Idaho wannabe clown. Of course, this is the Dem primary we're talking about, so the Shasta area and up won't be voting anyway.
One could say the same thing about SoCal's Kern, Kings and Tulare counties.
https://www.kcra.com/article/california ... p/34922105#

It'll always be a statewide election. I'm just saying it might be a good thing if there are de facto northern and southern seats. Khanna is Silicon Valley, and Lee and Feinstein are Bay Area. No one from Redding in the mix yet. You don't have a Dem primary anymore, just one open primary. If a RepuQ manages to sneak into second in March, s/he will be beaten by the Dem in Nov barring some baby blood drinking scandal.

Is it? He's still the Big Stinky Cheese:

Trump trounces DeSantis in potential GOP primary match-up, new poll finds

I've said it before, IMO there's no way that the modern GQP nominates a woman or a non-White. Nikki Haley checks both boxes. It also means no ma'am to Noem.
Republican senator Tim Scott preparing presidential run – report
Only Black Republican in Senate set to challenge Donald Trump for nomination, Wall Street Journal says

... The report about Scott’s plans came two days ahead of an expected campaign launch by another South Carolina Republican, Nikki Haley, a former governor who was US ambassador to the United Nations under Donald Trump.

Still the only declared candidate for the 2024 nomination, Trump spoke in New Hampshire and South Carolina last month. He has already secured support from the other South Carolina senator, Lindsey Graham, the governor, Henry McMaster, and US House members....

Both Scott and Haley are often mentioned as potential vice-presidential picks, Haley representing youth and diversity (Haley is 51 and Indian American).
:headscratch: Scott is 57 and Black.
... Ed Kilgore, a Democratic operative turned columnist, suggested Scott might actually have his eye on 2028.

Scott, Kilgore wrote for New York Magazine, might really be “engaging in a sort of starter presidential campaign in order to build contacts and positive name ID for a future run … a respectable start, a signature moment or two, and a graceful exit from the 2024 contest may be the real goal”.

As a general principle I support anyone running that wishes. It can be perilous to overthink things. For example, there's a fair chance that Dolt .45 will die during the campaign.

This should be interesting. Nikki Haley used "Eye of the Tiger" for her entry theme. Did she get permission? Unlikely, given what the "Survivor" band has said before in objecting to political use of its song. Is she really so stupid as to use it after at least three other Repugs have been sued/cease and desist over it? Do they not bother to check, or do they just figure whatever penalty they get, if any, will be worth the use?

A Wealthy ‘Anti-Woke’ Activist Joins the 2024 Presidential Field

Vivek Ramaswamy, a multimillionaire entrepreneur and author, entered the Republican presidential race on Tuesday with an appearance on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News show and a video centered on opposition to social justice activism.
Mr. Ramaswamy, 37, is a former biotechnology executive and hedge fund partner who has made a name for himself in right-wing circles by opposing corporate efforts to advance political, social and environmental causes. He has particularly denounced environmental, social and governance investing, or E.S.G., a framework under which financial companies consider the long-term societal effects of their investment decisions.

His announcement video signaled that he would focus his campaign on the notion that conservatives are being culturally victimized by a social and political focus on the effects of racism and other forms of bigotry.
:violin:
“We’re in the middle of a national identity crisis,” the three-and-a-half-minute video begins. “Faith, patriotism and hard work have disappeared, only to be replaced by new secular religions like Covidism, climatism and gender ideology.”

His use of the word “religions” was intentional: He wants to cast diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, or D.E.I., as religions, which would prevent companies from forcing employees to abide by them.

If elected, Mr. Ramaswamy said in an interview with The New York Times on Tuesday, his first action would be to repeal Executive Order 11246, which has banned discrimination and required affirmative action for federal contractors since 1965....

Rational choice. Modern RepuQs will only nominate a lying wingnut like TRE45QN or a fascist like DerSantis. Then, they will LOSE in Nov and shriek, "Stolen election!" for 2+ years.

I think the dems best shot may be if DeSantis wins the primary and trump is so butt-hurt that he runs on a 3rd party ticket.

Side note:
1st the right changed our party's name from Democratic to Democrat (emphasis last 3 letters), but that wasn't good enough for fox. Several fox types are now using "Dems" in their print media. (I sure miss Jon Stewart)

I know that I use the same term, but I am one.

What if the msn started calling republicans "repubs", or even repugs?

Trump's fans sent him $1.5 million in 3 days after he falsely predicted that he'd be arrested Tuesday

It's the Cult .45. even more shocking than this bump is:
... The resulting average of $500,000 a day is almost double the daily average from the weeks before and after he announced his bid for the White House in November.

The Trump campaign brought in $11.8 million in the six weeks before the announcement, averaging out at $280,000 a day. And in the six weeks after Trump announced his run, his campaign raised $9.5 million, or $226,000 a day.
 Despite the fact that TRE45QN lost 4 elections in a row he remains the Grifter in Chief.
... Trump has raised millions while casting himself as a victim of political persecution. In the weeks after he lost the 2020 election, he raised a reported $170 million off lies that the White House was stolen from him.

He also told voters that their money would go to an "Official Election Defense Fund" for investigating the election, but the House select committee investigating the Capitol riot confirmed in June that no such fund ever existed. Most of the money instead went to Trump's PAC, per the Post....
:violin: While it's sad, and a little funny, how easily Trumpettes are duped, the silver lining is that they would otherwise certainly throw their money at something equally stupid. Plus, IMO there's no way that nominee TRE45QN wins the 2024 general. If so, their donating is impotent.

Former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson is running for president in 2024, he said Sunday....

Hutchinson joins what’s expected to be a competitive Republican primary. In addition to Trump, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and conservative entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy have launched campaigns, and several others have said they’re considering joining the fray....

Long way to go, but the indictment has really helped Dolt .45 among RepuQs, something like 45-19 vs Fascist DerSantis now. At least in the short run this will hurt DerSantis' fundraising.
