2024 Elections

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

What the fuck is okay about legislating against opposition?

Bobblehead Alitass says it's all good.

"He wrote that, if anything, GOP legislators wanted to suppress Democratic votes, and since Hispanics are disproportionately Democratic, their law just so happened to fall especially hard on Hispanic voters. Alito even described the appeals court’s conclusion as “insulting” to the legislators accused of racism, a classic move from a justice who is offended by the mere supposition that racism still exists"

60% of Americans think it would be bad for the country if Trump ran for president again in 2024: poll (article)

The exact poll question:
13. If Donald Trump runs for president in 2024, do you think that would be good for the country or bad for the country?

I wish they would also ask:
If Donald Trump runs for president in 2024 and that gave the election to the Dems, do you think that would be good for the country or bad for the country?

I think that's the likely result of a former PINO run.

FTA:
... The results show a partisan split: 73% of Republicans think a Trump 2024 bid would be good for the country, while 95% of Democrats think it would be bad. Just over 60% of independent voters also think the former president shouldn't run again. Still, 49% of Americans think Trump will run again, versus 39% who think he won't.

While President Joe Biden's approval was above water - 46% approve of the job he's doing while 43% disapprove - the poll shows that his support only goes so deep; 48% of Americans also say it would be bad for the country if he ran again, and just 74% of Democrats said it would be good for the country.
I don't have an opinion on Joe running. The first thing that comes to mind is his age. It's also a big factor with 45SHOLE.
Interestingly, the poll also found that most Americans believe Biden will not seek re-election; 54% of respondents said the current president would not run in 2024, while just 33% said he would. While 73% of Republicans thought Biden wouldn't run again, even 45% of Democrats - a plurality - agreed.

Asked which party they would prefer to be in control of Congress, 45% opted for the Democratic Party while 42% chose the Republican Party.
As awful as the RepuQs have been the Dems should have managed better PR.
The poll also revealed a deepening polarization around the January 6th assault on the US Capitol; 75% of Republicans said too much is being made of the event and it's time to move on, while 94% of Democrats said it was an attack on democracy that should never be forgotten. Still 63% of Americans support the congressional investigation of the attack, though 59% say it will not lead to significant policy changes....

Trump remains under intense scrutiny. The CFO of Trump Organization was indicted in early July. News stories have focused on new evidence of him pressuring the Justice Department to baselessly declare the election "corrupt" and the racism and violence of the pro-Trump rioters on Jan. 6.

Trump says rumored 2024 GOP candidate Nikki Haley 'criticizes me' then 'uncriticizes me about 15 minutes later'

IMO, regardless of former PINO there's no way that the modern GQP nominates a woman like flip-flopping Haley or Gov Noem, or a non-Anglo like Haley. They will just be diversity window dressing like Cain, Carly Fiorina, Jindal and Carson were.

Who knows?

I might just change my registration to GOP just so I can vote against DJT in the primaries if he runs.

Not sure who I'd vote for instead.

I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

He could have been honest and said "Dan Quayle" which would also have gotten a few laughs but maybe not any applause.

Let's see: James Madison wrote the US Constitution, did he not? So it was a perceptive answer, one that I would not have expected from Pence. But then he did refuse to support the insurrection. So there seems to be some good in him after all.

From my understanding Pence was all about refusing to certify the results, but he spoke with Dan Quayle (see neo's response above) about the legality and Mr. Quayle told him it there's no legal way to refuse the results.

So Pence is still a piece of shit.

Well, Pence and Quayle are both from Indiana. And Pence gave god an honorable mention in the same breath he used to praise Madison. So he credits a dead guy and an imaginary guy for giving sage advice. This is safe because neither god or Madison will object to or deny the Pence claim.

TFG will definitely have a harder time if he takes the dive. Can he win without speaking to any "credible" journalists?

His 35% will vote for him regardless, fence sitters?

Maybe not so much.

Voices: Trump’s NPR interview went even worse than he could have possibly imagined

Would've been interesting to see him vaccine reverberate though.

Best line in the NPR interview story:

"Toys were fully flung out of the stroller, littering the floor."

That's our Trump!
