You've forgotten about "alternative facts." :D
Yeah, that was fun, and was created by somebody who tried to use a term they didn't understand. The correct term is "alternative set of facts".

... Applying different fact sets in one's argument for guilt or innocence can make a big difference.

But that's not "alternative facts."

Jan. 6 defendant, representing himself, questions son who turned him into the FBI

... Video cited by the government shows Mock shoving an officer and appearing to kick an officer. "Get out!" Mock yelled at officers in the videos. "Go!" Video cited by the government then shows Mock shoving another officer, and then picking up multiple riot shields and passing them back into the mob. Online "Sedition Hunters" who have identified hundreds of Jan. 6 defendants as well as hundreds more participants who have not yet been charged dubbed Mock "Amoral Combat," referencing the video game series.
One of the great things about J6 is the discovery of patriots like the Sedition Hunters, Cheney, Kinsinger and Brad Raffensperger.
... More than 1,000 people have been arrested in connection with the Jan. 6 attack, and there's been a noticeable uptick in arrests in the past few weeks. Hundreds of additional cases are in the works. The statute of limitations for crimes committed on Jan. 6 expires in early 2026.

Justice Department to challenge length of prison sentences for Rhodes and other Oath Keepers

The Justice Department is appealing the 18-year-prison sentence handed down for Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, as well as other far-right extremists' punishments that were shorter than what prosecutors had sought, according to court papers filed Wednesday.

While Rhodes received a lengthy sentence for seditious conspiracy and other convictions, the 18-year term was below the recommended range under federal guidelines and less than the 25 years the Justice Department had asked for in one of the most serious cases to go to trial in the Capitol attack.

Defendants routinely appeal their convictions and sentences, but it is more unusual for prosecutors to challenge the length of a prison term imposed by judges who have wide discretion when handing down punishments. Rhodes' was the longest sentence that has been handed down so far in more than 1,000 Capitol riot cases....

The Justice Department filed notices in court that they they intend to appeal the sentences of other Oath Keepers, including Florida chapter leader Kelly Meggs, who was convicted of seditious conspiracy alongside Rhodes and sentenced to 12 years behind bars.

Three other Oath Keepers tried with Rhodes were acquitted of the sedition charge but convicted of other felonies. Four Oath Keepers were convicted of the seditious conspiracy charge at a second trial in January....

During a series of sentencings for the Oath Keepers in May, U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta agreed with prosecutors that Rhodes and the other Oath Keepers’ actions could be punished as “terrorism,” increasing the recommended sentence under federal guidelines. But the judge ultimately went below — in some cases far below — the sentence prosecutors were seeking for each defendant....
:headscratch: I can understand some frustration, but 18 and 12 years are huge prison sentences. What's the point of pushing for more, isn't there a chance that the sentences could be reduced, and is it worth prejudicing the judge against future prosecutions?

District Judge Amit Mehta was appointed by Barack Obama.

Bad trouble:
Jan. 6 rioter accused of stealing from Pelosi’s office sentenced to more than 4 years in prison

A Chicago man who went inside former Speaker Pelosi’s office and stole a prized photograph and the wallet of one her staffers during the Jan. 6, 2021, riot on the Capitol, was sentenced Friday to over four years in prison.

U.S. District Court Judge Beryl Howell sentenced Kevin Lyons, 40, to four years and three months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, according to court records. This is a few months shorter than the federal prosecutors’ recommended sentence of four years and eight months, according to a sentencing memo filed earlier this month....

Lyons went into the Capitol through the Senate wing door, where he yelled out “Nancy, where are you?” before entering Pelosi’s office suites and her private office. There, he took a wallet from a congressional staffer’s coat and a framed photograph with late Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.), according to the court documents.

... Federal prosecutors said Lyons later texted his friends a picture of the photograph, admitting he took the photo. “He then bragged, ‘I’m pretty confident I am now a multiple Federal felon.”
Idiot.
... Days later on Jan. 11, 2021, FBI agents interviewed Lyons at his home after they received a tip about his involvement in the Capitol riot. Lyons eventually handed over the photos and videos he took during the insurrection to the FBI....
Even more of an idiot :---P . Locking him up.

‘It’s Not Fair’: Florida Vocal Coach Turned Capitol Rioter Gets 6 Years
“My whole dream of my life has been taken,” Audrey Southard-Rumsey reportedly said in a 15-minute tirade.

:violin: :violin: :violin:
She had been found guilty on seven felony charges, including three counts of assaulting or resisting law enforcement and three counts of civil disorder.

Mehta reportedly called her a “one-person wrecking crew.” The judge added an optional terrorism enhancement to meet prosecutors’ requested sentence of 72 months, despite generally handing out sentences to Jan. 6 defendants that are shorter than recommended by the government.
:---P
The Spring Hill, Florida, resident worked as a vocal coach until her arrest in June 2021.

Prosecutors say she used a flagpole to push against law enforcement trying to defend the Capitol, causing one officer to hit his head on the base of a marble statue.

Southard-Rumsey was also captured on video yelling at Capitol Police, “Tell Pelosi we are coming for that bitch,” referring to the then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

“There’s a hundred thousand of us! What’s it going to be?” Southard-Rumsey was heard saying on the video.

Prosecutors noted her threatening social media posts in the wake of the 2020 election, which included “HANG the TRAITORS!” and a message to “go to their work and home, pull them out by their teeth and hang them for treason!”
 "pull them out by their teeth"? How does that even work?

Michigan charges 16 fake electors for Donald Trump with election law and forgery felonies

... Attorney General Dana Nessel, a Democrat, announced Tuesday that all 16 people would face eight criminal charges, including forgery and conspiracy to commit election forgery. The top charges carry a maximum penalty of 14 years in prison.

The group includes the head of the Republican National Committee’s chapter in Michigan, Kathy Berden, as well as the former co-chair of the Michigan Republican Party, Meshawn Maddock, and Shelby Township Clerk Stan Grot.

In seven battleground states, including Michigan, supporters of Trump signed certificates that falsely stated he won their states, not Biden. The fake certificates were ignored, but the attempt has been subject to investigations, including by the House committee that investigated the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.
Sweet :---P x 16 x 8.
... One of those charged, John Haggard, 82, of Charlevoix, told The Detroit News on Tuesday that he he didn’t believe he did anything wrong.

“Did I do anything illegal? No,” Haggard said.
Dementia or has he always been stupid?
... False Electoral College certificates were also submitted declaring Trump the winner of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, New Mexico, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

Investigations are underway in some other states that submitted fake electors, but not all.

A Georgia prosecutor investigating possible illegal meddling in the 2020 election has agreed to immunity deals with at least eight fake electors. And Arizona’s Democratic attorney general is in the very early stages of a probe. Nevada’s attorney general, also a Democrat, has said he won’t bring charges, while Wisconsin has no active investigation and the attorney general has deferred to the U.S. Justice Department.

There is no apparent investigation in Pennsylvania and former Attorney General Josh Shapiro, who is now governor, said he didn’t believe there was evidence the actions of the fake electors met the legal standards for forgery.
billy.pilgrim is correct, this should also be a federal case.
A group of other Trump allies in Michigan, including former GOP attorney general candidate Matthew DePerno, are facing potential criminal charges related to attempts to gain access to voting machines after the 2020 election....

I try to be generous because of Chansley's documented mental illness, but he sure is an asshole.
Judge blasts 'QAnon Shaman' for recanting his apology and refuses to toss out his plea agreement

... "The Court is disappointed to learn that, through his filings and public statements, Mr. Chansley has recanted the contrition displayed at his sentencing nearly two years ago," US District Judge Royce C. Lamberth wrote. "Such an about-face casts serious doubt on the veracity of any of Mr. Chansley's claims, here or elsewhere." ...

Tucker Carlson came to Chansley's defense

... On March 6, before Chansley left prison, then-Fox News host Tucker Carlson aired security footage from the January 6 riot, obtained by Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, that he falsely claimed demonstrated it was a peaceful protest.

One piece of footage obtained by Carlson is a 10-second clip that shows Chansley outside the Senate chamber. Chansley claimed the clip proved his innocence and that prosecutors withheld the video footage from him before he entered his plea agreement....

Calling Chansley's legal arguments "devoid of common sense," the judge said the 10-second video did not, in fact, prove he was innocent.

"These videos are decidedly not exculpatory, especially when viewed in context with the 'miles and miles and miles of footage' recorded of Mr. Chansley on January 6, 2021," Lamberth wrote. "Such footage, conveniently omitted by the March 6, 2023 program, shows nearly all of Mr. Chansley's actions that day, including: carrying a six-foot-long pole armed with a spearhead, unlawfully entering the Capitol through a broken door, disobeying orders from law enforcement on more than a half-dozen occasions, screaming obscenities, entering the Senate chamber, climbing onto the Senate dais, sitting in the Vice President's chair, and leaving a threatening message for the Vice President."
:---P
William Shipley, Chansley's current lawyer, said on Twitter that he does "not anticipate" filing additional challenges to the sentence.
:violin:
The judge blasted Carlson, who was fired from Fox News earlier this year. Lamberth wrote the March 6 broadcast misrepresented the January 6 riot in ways "too numerous to count."

Carlson, the judge wrote, included "inflammatory characterizations of cherry-picked videos stripped of their proper context" that undermined faith in the criminal justice system.

"In so doing, he called on his followers to 'reject the evidence of [their] eyes and ears,' language resembling the destructive, misguided rhetoric that fueled the events of January 6 in the first place," Lamberth wrote. "The Court finds it alarming that the host's viewers throughout the nation so readily heeded his command."
:---P :---P Tucker is not mentally ill, he's just pure asshole.

US District Judge Royce C. Lamberth was appointed by Ronald Reagan. Opps.

Rioter who stole badge, radio from beaten officer on Jan. 6 gets more than 4 years in prison

... Thomas Sibick, of Buffalo, pleaded guilty in March for his role in the attack on Metropolitan Police Officer Michael Fanone, who has described fighting for his life to defend the Capitol as lawmakers inside fled from the angry mob on Jan. 6, 2021....

Following his arrest, Sibick spent eight months behind bars but was released on home confinement in October 2021 after his lawyer pressed the judge to free him while his case played out....

Fanone’s body camera captured Sibick removing the officer’s badge and radio from his tactical vest, according to a court filing accompanying his guilty plea.
Opps, should have grabbed the camera, too, dummy.
... Before FBI agents showed Sibick the body camera video, he initially claimed that he tried in vain to pull the officer away from his attackers....
