Wingnut Man states that aren't Florida, Alabama, Georgia, or the Carolinas

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

The biggest hammer they tried to hit Newsom with was over the whining about covid restrictions. Those are mostly relaxed in most parts of the state, the economy is pretty much back, everything is scheduled to be open after June 15 (but masks still required), and California has the lowest infection rate in the country. A lot of wind went out of that initial repuQ sail.

The way a recall works is there are two questions on the ballot. (1) should the Governor be recalled, yes/no. If "no" wins, that's it, everybody goes back to work. If "yes" wins, then (2) who should replace him. Top vote getter takes all, no majority required. No Dems are currently (or likely) to run, so if the recall vote goes against him, there will be a repuQ replacement. The only reasonable candidates so far are former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer and ex-U.S. Rep. Doug Ose, who last held office in 2005. Faulconer is less looney that the average repuQ, and was reasonably satisfactory in a Dem city. Neither has much state-wide name recognition.

Only about 25% of registered voters are repuQs, so it's a hard pull for them, even with some covid-whiney dems joining in. Last poll had "yes" losing 40-60.

Consensus seems to be that the repuQs can't win it, but Newsom could lose it by doing something stupid (like going out to a gathering at the French Laundry in the middle of a SIYFH order - where average tab is $350/person not including wine)
Thanks. Hmmm, I can see why "No Dems are currently (or likely) to run," but the pessimist in me says there should be one for just in case. No harm in voting 'No' on the recall while also voting for a decent Dem - approved by Newsom so there are no hard feelings - as a safety. If doing so would seriously put Newsom at risk, maybe he should be recalled.

That said, I'm sure you're correct that Newsom will remain Gov, regardless.

If Newsom was expected to lose, or maybe even if it would be very close, then a replacement Dem would make sense in a heavily Dem majority state. But if he's expected to win, then having alternate Dems on the ballot could dilute the initial vote by people that are Dems but didn't like staying ITFH's. If an "approved" Dem shows up to run, we'll know Newsom is in trouble.

In California (and most states), a person needs 1600 hours of study and passing an exam to be a cosmetologist and keep Caitlyn's hair, nails, and makeup looking glam. In California (and most states) you only have to fill out a couple of forms to run for governor. How can it even be imaginable, much less actual fact, that states have no minimum requirements for their highest leadership/management office?

Here's the listed qualifications for an "Office Specialist" in the small California town of Oraville:

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent and one (1) year experience in clerical, administrative or secretarial duties in a professional office environment; six (6) months of Butte County experience preferred. An Associate's degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Behavioral or Social Sciences, or a related field or a Certificate of Achievement in computer applications, business management, office assistant or legal office assistant from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the required experience.
• Valid State of California driver's license may be required.

I posted about this about an hour ago in the race wingnut etc thread.

Opps....I actually didn't post about that dude but only replied to GoCubsGo after he replied to my post about the kid who was almost kidnapped here in my hometown. I was temporarily confused because someone tried to kidnap me but they relented when I told them that hominy don't play that.

That's embarrassing to be rejected by a kidnapper. :P

Not sure which, so:
One refers to an OHenry short story
and two is a tangential random thought that sprang to mind when the article pointed out that it was a Wilson County man.

Have you read it? He was more than they could handle.
"'The Ransom of Red Chief" is a short story by O. Henry first published in the July 6, 1907 issue of The Saturday Evening Post. It follows two men who kidnap, and demand a ransom for, a wealthy Alabamian's son. Eventually, the men are driven crazy by the boy's spoiled and hyperactive behavior, and they pay the boy's father to take him back."

Could be.
