The 'JR-15,' an AR-15 rifle for kids, is being marketed again weeks after a 6-year-old shot a teacher

... The JR-15 is a .22 long rifle roughly 20% smaller than a standard AR-15 that weighs less than 2-and-½ pounds. It is geared toward "smaller enthusiasts," according to Wee 1 Tactical, the manufacturer that makes the guns.

... The promotional material references "American family values" and says that the gun is the first in a line of "shooting platforms designed to safely help adults introduce young enthusiasts to the shooting sports."

The Illinois gun manufacturer sparked widespread condemnation when it unveiled the firearm in February last year....

Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene tweeted in support of the firearm last year, suggesting that children at the mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas, could have defended themselves with the JR-15.

7 dead as California mourns 3rd mass killing in 8 days

A gunman killed seven people at two agricultural businesses in Northern California, plunging the state into mourning again in the wake of its third mass killing in eight days.

Officers arrested a suspect in Monday’s shootings, 67-year-old Chunli Zhao, after they found him in his car in the parking lot of a sheriff’s substation, San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus said.

Seven people were found dead and an eighth injured at a farm and another location several miles away, the Sheriff’s Office said. Officials believe Zhao worked at one of the facilities and that the victims were workers as well, Corpus said. Officials haven’t determined a motive for the shooting.

California is still reeling from an attack on a Lunar New Year celebration in Monterey Park that killed 11 and cast a shadow over an important holiday for many Asian-American communities. Authorities are still seeking a motive for the Saturday shooting.

The new year has brought a shocking string of mass killings in the U.S. — six in less than three weeks, accounting for 39 deaths....

The killings occurred on the outskirts of Half Moon Bay, a city about 30 miles (48 kilometers) south of San Francisco.

Half Moon Bay Vice Mayor Joaquin Jimenez said the victims included Chinese and Latino farmworkers. Some workers lived at one of the facilities and children may have witnessed the shooting, she said....

On Jan. 16, a teenage mother and her baby were among six people killed in a shooting at a home in California's Central Valley.

Two people, including a teenager, have been arrested and charged in connection with the shooting of nine children at a Georgia gas station last week.

Columbus police were called to a Shell gas station just after 10 p.m. on Feb. 17 where they found nine juveniles suffering from gunshot wounds.

All nine victims, which included a 5-year-old boy, were taken to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries....

The question should be "how many gun lobby-owned congress critters do we have to replace to get anything done?" And the answer is "more than are ever going to happen." Andy and I talked just last week about our kids. It was a nice conversation.

I had no idea that he feels so strongly about assault weapons.

If someone like Andy would say, ‘hey, we don’t need these kinds of weapons,’ we could make some real change.

I’ll ask him this week.

... On Ogles’ campaign website, he said he would “fight tirelessly” to protect Second Amendment rights. It states: “Disarming the people is the most effective way to enslave them, and we must remain vigilant when anyone seeks to erode our civil liberties.”

Formerly the mayor of Maury County, Tennessee, Ogles touts on his House bio that he was recognized as “Tennessee’s most conservative mayor.”

In February, Ogles was exposed for embellishing many elements of his résumé, including the degree he studied and his work fighting international sex trafficking.

He wasn’t the only gun-toting lawmaker to send prayers Monday. Rep. Lauren Boebert, who shared a very similar family Christmas photo in 2021, was also reamed for her futile message about the violence.
