... Maryland
Legislators, rather than citizens, initiated Maryland’s measure, which would amend the state constitution to confirm individuals’ “right to reproductive freedom, including but not limited to the ability to make and effectuate decisions to prevent, continue, or end the individual’s pregnancy”. Like Colorado, Maryland has become an abortion haven because it permits the procedure throughout pregnancy. It is also relatively close to the deep south, which is blanketed in bans.
... Montana
In the years since Roe fell, Montana courts and its Republican-dominated legislature have wrestled over abortion restrictions and whether the right to privacy embedded in Montana’s constitution includes the right to abortion. Abortion remains legal until viability in Montana, but the measure would amend the state constitution to explicitly include “a right to make and carry out decisions about one’s own pregnancy, including the right to abortion” up until viability. Providers could perform an abortion after viability to protect a patient’s life or health.
Nebraska
Nebraska, which bans abortion past 12 weeks of pregnancy, is the lone state with two competing ballot measures this November. One of the measures would enshrine the right to abortion up until viability into the state constitution, while the other would enshrine the current ban. If both measures pass, the measure that garners the most votes would take effect....

Go women and allies in the other states!
5 red, 3 blue, 2 purple. Fingers crossed for coattails, at least in AZ and NV, maybe in FL, maybe in the MT Senate race.
In the year and a half following the Supreme Court Dobbs decision that revoked the federal right to an abortion, hundreds more infants died than expected in the United States, new research shows. The vast majority of those infants had congenital anomalies, or birth defects....
Then, there are all the infants with birth defects who didn't die but have and will have a diminished quality of life RWers hate babies
An Ohio judge permanently struck down the state's ban on abortion after about six weeks on Thursday and criticized its Republican attorney general for attempting to circumvent the will of Ohioans who voted to enshrine abortion protections in the state constitution.
Judge Christian Jenkins of the Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas in Cincinnati said the Republican-backed 2019 state law would interfere with women's ability to receive abortions and discourage doctors from performing them, in violation of a constitutional amendment approved by voters last year....

Heh, I started a new thread on LNF this morning citing that same story. Those nutjobs over there are really wound up in their trump insanity and stupidity. Hilarious.
I especially liked the part in the story where the judge informs the OH attorney general that he evidently "didn't get the memo" about the abortion referendum the voters passed last year. Hell, the GQP even tried everything the could think of to derail the abortion referendum before it was voted on.

Great minds . . .

He shredded them.

Misogynists hate the people and democracy.
And I read about an hour ago on yahoo news that a GQP House member in MD SAYS NC should allocate its electoral votes to trump before the election. When I saw the headline, I went but evidently this guy is just one of many GQP nutjobs and fascist idiots.

The chair of the conservative House Freedom Caucus says the North Carolina Legislature should consider allocating the state’s presidential electors to Donald Trump even before votes are counted in the swing state.
Rep. Andy Harris (R-Md.) said Thursday that such a step by North Carolina’s Republican-controlled Legislature “makes a lot of sense” given the devastation wrought by Hurricane Helene in the western part of the state. Counties in that region are expected to vote heavily for Trump.
Potential difficulties with voting in the hurricane-damaged area would be a basis for the state Legislature to declare in advance that Trump should win the state’s 16 electoral votes, Harris said at a Republican Party dinner in Maryland’s Talbot County.
... North Carolina election officials have attempted to address challenges voters are facing in the state’s western counties. They’ve added new early voting sites and expanded the ability for displaced voters to obtain absentee ballots outside their home county. The Trump campaign has supported measures to ease voting in light of the hurricane.
Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.) told reporters on Friday he hadn’t heard about any plans for the state Legislature to take the steps discussed by Raiklin and Harris. Asked about Harris’ comments, McHenry said, “It makes no sense whatsoever to prejudge the election outcome. And that is a misinformed view of what is happening on the ground in North Carolina, bless his heart.”
The retiring congressman described a “massive amount of work” going into ensuring everyone in the storm-affected counties can vote.
“I’m confident we’ll have a safe and fair election in North Carolina, and then everyone that wishes to vote will have the opportunity,” he said....
That's true AFAIK. The media here is doing lots of reporting on it. McHenry has often been a wild card within the GQP. They're even letting the dislocated vote in different counties from where they're registered. Rep. Andy Harris (R-Md.) and the House Freedom Caucus MAGAts can go fuck themselves.
Andrew Peter Harris (born January 25, 1957) is an American politician and physician serving as the U.S. representative for Maryland's 1st congressional district. The district includes the entire Eastern Shore, as well as several eastern exurbs of Baltimore County. He is the only Republican member of Maryland's congressional delegation.

I apologize for MD's lack of unanimity.
Yeah, I saw what McHenry said about it. Apparently the nutjob in MD is just the northern version of MTG. Fish slap.
Reproductive rights have emerged as one of the most important issues this election, and millions of voters in 10 states will decide on ballot measures that would enshrine abortion rights in their constitutions.
In Hail-Mary attempts to defeat these amendments in Missouri, Maryland and New York, where they seem likely to pass, conservative groups are falsely claiming that pro-choice ballot measures are really efforts to perform gender-affirming surgeries on minors without parental consent.
At the Moms for Liberty annual summit in August, former President Donald Trump claimed children were getting gender reassignment surgeries at schools. There is no truth to the comment, but it plays into Republican fearmongering about trans people — and especially trans youth — that has ramped up over the last few years. The Trump campaign has spent $20 million on anti-trans ads despite polling showing that it’s not a major concern for the American public.
Some conservative organizations seem to hope that sparking fears about children getting surgeries without parental consent will sink ballot measures that are actually about abortion rights, an issue that generally enjoys broad support on both sides of the political aisle....
This trans obsession is both ridiculous and very revealing
