Sleazy Santos

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Sleazy Santos

I held off on creating a new topic because I wasn't sure he'd last a week, but we may have him to kick around for 2 years.

I still don't understand why people are upset. The voters failed to educate themselves and they voted the man in. Simple solution - vote him out in 2 years.

How many reps, senators and presidents have served because they claimed to be christian?
 , but I think it's a matter of scale and the fact that Santos was a conman even before politics. I'm fine with chasing him out, especially with such a narrow House RepuQ majority and in a district that's likely to replace him with a D in any special election....
Rep. George Santos says he will resign if 142,000 people ask him to

... Santos later clarified that he was in fact referring to the more than 142,000 people who voted to elect him in New York's Third Congressional District in November.

In an interview with Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla. — who was serving as guest host of Steve Bannon’s “War Room” podcast — Santos said he would remain in Congress "until those same 142,000 people tell me they don't want me."...
Gaetz, Bannon and Sleazy Santos are a real Axis of Evil.

MoveOn has a couple of petitions:
Impeach George Santos Upon Arrival!
George Santos Must Resign or Be Expelled
https://sign.moveon.org/petitions/searc ... rge+santos

I signed, but I have mixed feelings. I want him ousted so the seat will flip Dem. However, he is also the perfect posterboy for the lying, corrupt, unrepentant GQP. He puts the 'con' in 'conservative'. It'll be fun to use him to fish slap SINO McCarthy and the GQP for 2 years.
luis

If DOJ starts doing their job - arrest trump and his supporters traitors and MAGA republicans and that weasel santos - America will be happy nation
 I didn't know that billy.pilgrim is a Yahoo commenter named luis. :D
He'll get the Cawthorn treatment. Constituents will vote him out in 2 years and he'll spend these next 2 trying to use his power to enrich himself at all cost, while doing as little as possible to represent any of them.
How fortunate for Santos that his fellow Republicans just voted to gut the Ethics Committee.

And for the record, those 142,000 people voted for a George Santos who didn't actually exist.
i don't care if he resigns or not. i want him arrested for perjury to begin with and an investigation of his fundraising sources AND how he is spending the money he is receiving from them.
The salary for a Freshman Congressman is $174K/year. I suspect he'll do little to no local work within his district. He is on a 2 year paid vacation and will walk away with $348K in taxpayer money (on top of whatever he can get for votes b/c he is 100% for sale).
I believe the most serious, most concerning and the craziest aspect about all this may be that Santos honestly believes, truly believes, that he has done nothing wrong. And that should scare all of us regardless of political party affiliation.

I googled Clillanian gangs, but all I got was a bunch of stuff about Chilean gangs.

Coincidentally that is what grifting is called in Brasil.

Watching that guy just gives me the creeps. How could anyone actually vote for him?
-0-? Partially auto-partisan, many independents that didn't actually see him live or on TV? It's not like they're uneducated, it's an extremely wealthy district. They'd need a mass mea culpa, but there's nobody left that will admit having voted for him.
House Republican: If George Santos broke campaign finance laws, 'he will be removed from Congress'

Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., the new chair of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, said embattled Rep. George Santos, R-N.Y., would be ousted from Congress if it's determined that he broke campaign finance laws.

"I haven't even introduced myself to him because it's pretty despicable the lies that he told," Comer said on CNN's "State of the Union." "But at the end of the day, it's not up to me or any other member of Congress to determine whether he could be kicked out for lying. Now if he broke campaign finance laws, then he will be removed from Congress." ...
At best it would be months for a campaign finance law conviction, but could be years.

Dolt .45 broke campaign finance law with his unreported hush money payoffs to the porn stars that Cohen went to prison for, but the Dems never included them in the impeachment charges  and the RepuQs including Comer were silent.

Not exactly the crime of the century, but sleazy nonetheless.

George Santos' former roommate says the congressman stole his $520 Burberry scarf and wore it to a 'Stop the Steal' rally: report
There's also nobody left that's surprised.
... A representative for Santos did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.
How desperate and fucked up do you have to be to work for Sleazy Santos at this point? It will never be included on a resumé.

I still don't see the outage against this low level repug scumbag. I can think of about 250 senators and congresspeople who are far worse for the country. This guy is just media clickbait. Go after the truly crazy destroyers of the country instead. This guy is bound for the dust heap quicker than a cawthorn.

I see it as contributing to going "after the truly crazy destroyers of the country" by repeatedly featuring Sleazy Santos as a posterboy for the GQP, and I see no reason that we can't go after both.

Just 250? Are there 21 GQP senators and congresspeople that aren't destroying the country and you're okay with? :P

No, there aren't. I read a recent article that pointed out what should be obvious, but it put it so clearly the horror of it couldn't be ignored. It discussed the common line of thought that the Repugs have these "hard right" renegade sorts, the "Freedom Caucus" people, etc., the Boeberts and EmptyG's that have way too much power for their smallish number (maybe 25% of Repugs), and that the other 3/4 are more reasonable, "moderate" people. Then it dropped the hammer - they'll talk "moderate" but look how they vote. And that's with the crazies - every effin' time.

I see the Santos guy as strictly a shining bauble to distract people from the real issues.
He'll be gone on his own in less than 2 years and there's nothing the dems can do about it and the repugs won't lift a finger to remove him from their small majority.
He's a waste of time.

I agree, sorta. Except that significant lies about who you are when running for office shouldn't be a "ho hum, same ol' same ol'" thing. This is not a "puffery" or "marketing" thing or an issue of stretching the truth. He didn't just distort what he'd done - he completely made up a person. If he gets by with this unscathed, it's a very short jump to many elections becoming catfish schemes.

Poor LGBTQs, what a rotten rotten standard bearer.
GOP Congresswoman blames Joe Biden for George Santos’s lies

... Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY) said, according to Raw Story, that it’s Biden’s fault because he “sets a bad example for young people like George Santos.” Santos is 34 and his trouble with the law – at least with Brazilian law – started well before Biden’s presidency. Santos’s first, failed campaign for Congress also occurred before Biden was president....

Her comments are similar to those made by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) in December. Greene defended Santos, saying that Democrats have lied in the past so it’s not immoral for Santos to have made up an entire life history. Many of her examples of Democratic lies were themselves lies, including an accusation that Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) married her brother and lied about it, which is not true and is a disgusting rumor made up by the far-right to attack the Black and Muslim Congresswoman.

Last November, Tenney faced criticism for sharing a “cruel” fake image mocking former Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) husband Paul Pelosi. The image she shared showed five white men in shorts with short haircuts holding oversized hammers photoshopped in front of a house that many on the right believed was connected to the person who attacked Paul Pelosi last year in his home. If one perused the comments under the image, one would find that many conservatives believe that these men are what gay men generally look like.

“LOL,” Tenney wrote when tweeting the image, which was part of a rumor at the time that Pelosi is actually gay and was in a sexual relationship with the man who attacked him. There was no reason to believe either of those claims.
:wtf: :obscene-birdiered: This asshole might get her own thread one day.
GOP gives George Santos two committee assignments over fear rejecting him would set 'precedent': report

... "Santos on Tuesday got a seat on the House Committee on Small Business, a committee spokesperson confirmed, and a seat on the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology, per three House Steering Committee members," according to a report from Axios. "Santos has maintained that he will not give up his seat in Congress, despite public pressure to do so." ...

"Concern among Rs is that if they deny George Santos committees now, it’d set a precedent for other members who are facing intense scrutiny from the press but have not been charged with a crime," tweeted CNN congressional reporter Manu Raju....

Astronaut Scott Kelly Delivers Out-Of-This-World Troll Of George Santos
Other critics also mocked Santos for being named to two House committees despite an extensive history of lying.

 As for Rep Williams - No, someone wholly imaginary "represents a million people."

Image
Rep. George Santos — the Long Island wunderkind whose book The Wealth of Nations laid the groundwork for the legal concept of the corporation, and who discovered Neptune on September 23, 1846 — has been justly named to the Small Business, Space committees
Well, the science committee will certainly benefit from having Dr. George Santos as its first Nobel prize winner in physics on the panel.
Since Santos says he was the first guy to open a small business on the moon this checks out
