Donald Trump may have arranged himself a 11-figure payday after his own tax office signalled they would settle a lawsuit with him.
The US president and two of his sons have sued the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for $US10 billion ($14 billion) after his tax information was leaked to the media in 2018 and 2020.

Given the president has appointed the senior staff at the IRS and the Department of Treasury and has the power to fire them, the lawsuit has raised the ire of ethics watchdogs.

Well, gas prices are increased quickly. Reduced, not so much. I think further analysis shows that companies and outlets raise prices speculatively, as soon as any event is announced (Gulf closes, hurricane coming, etc., but are lowered only when necessary after the crises passes (or doesn't occur)
In other words, the increase and decrease of gas prices at the retail level has a very sharp up curve and a very gradual down curve.

So my local station raises the price of gas because it's announced that crude oil has been increased to over $100/barrel. But it takes an average of 4 weeks for that barrel to be refined, processed, and shipped off as gasoline. So the station is raising retail on gas that has not yet increased at wholesale, and won't for a month. Then, for whatever reason, oil barrels are reduced to $85. The station can't reduce the price at this point because it's really got actual $100/barrel gas in the tank, so the prices stay up for at least a month until the station is getting cheaper gas. But everybody had high prices, and the supply chain of gas is varied. If my station is one of the first to get some cheaper gas, it's still not going to reduce the price to where it used to be - it'll maybe reduce it a few cents lower than area competition, but no more until it has to.

So yeah, Trump and his "excursion" are directly responsible for the high gas price, but even in the unlikely event he "brings peace" to the area he started a war in, prices aren't going to drop in time for anybody to forget about them by November.

I understand your wishful thinking. I do not disagree prices are slower to come down than to rise for reasons you state. This fact did not start with Trump, but he owns this increase.

Yeah, that's kinda the point. It has always been that way - a fact perfectly obvious to everyone except Trump and his mouthpieces who keep claiming "the war will be over soon and when it is, prices will go down quickly."

As an aside, I've always found it annoying that everybody says "gas prices went up" as if there's some mystic force. A price doesn't do anything by itself. Why don't we say "companies (or retailers) raised the price of gas"? Passive voice assigns no responsibility; active voice does.
