Apparently I need someone to hold my hand and walk me through posting from YouTube.

Re: YouTube
1. Find your vid on YouTube. We are not able to post vids from other platforms.billy.pilgrim wrote: ↑Sun Feb 11, 2024 2:49 amApparently I need someone to hold my hand and walk me through posting from YouTube.
2. Copy the url.
3. Click on the "youtube" button here.
4. Place the url in between the boxes.
5. Remove the "=" sign and all the code to the left of it. It's okay if the first symbol to the right of the "=" sign is an underscore or anything else oddball. Just leave it and carry on.
6. You're done, click "Submit".
A YouTube url looks like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EM-O2AVrNBg
A video post to BRD looks like this:
If you forget, just look at one of my video posts since I always place the full url link under the video post. I do this for a couple of reasons:
1. We used to have a couple of members that could not watch vids on BRD for some reason. My posting the link made it easy for them to find the vid without having to reconstruct a YouTube url.
2. If y'all want to quote me without cluttering BRD by showing the vid every time, you can just remove my video post and the link remains.
If you have gotten the YouTube link from someone or somewhere else it may contain excess code that works as a link, but messes up your ability to show the video on BRD. The easiest way to deal with this is to take the video's title and search it on YouTube. This will then get you a clean url for the vid.

Re: YouTube
I’m either more confused, or getting closer.
When I click Share on any YouTube video, I get something like this:
https://youtu.be/6Whgn_iE5uc
No "=" sign.
I assume that what I’m getting when I click Share isn’t the url, but don’t see how to get the url.

Don't click "Share", just copy the url.billy.pilgrim wrote: ↑Sun Feb 11, 2024 7:34 pmI’m either more confused, or getting closer.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Whgn_iE5uc
This then becomes:
"6Whgn_iE5uc" to put in the youtube box.
Note that the code is the same as you had. From your link just get rid of https://youtu.be/
Again, if you're jammed up:
You could have searched "Santana - Smooth (Stereo) ft. Rob Thomas" on YouTube.Vrede too wrote: ↑Sun Feb 11, 2024 7:34 am... However, as happened to me with this vid you sometimes you will get a black screen saying "Video unavailable". This is a proprietary thing and there's nothing you can do about it. Just link the url as you have been doing. They're insisting that you watch it on YouTube, maybe for the ads

Re: YouTube
You have to go through a browser instead of an app, otherwise you get the .be bullshit.

Re: YouTube
When I click on your link I'm auto-directed to:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLUX0y4EptA
This cannot be turned into the video:
The attempt gets me:
"Video Unavailable
Watch on YouTube"
Again:

Isn’t the second one what you said to do - remove everything left of the = including =?

That instruction only applies when the url begins:billy.pilgrim wrote: ↑Tue Feb 13, 2024 8:42 amRight. The first link is what I get when I Share the YouTube video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=
With your https://youtu.be/HLUX0y4EptA?si=7sY69ADv3uLZOrg8 there's a 2-step process.
First, remove everything right of the ? including the ?. This is true for almost all links, that code tracks where you got the link, but does nothing for you. I always remove it before sharing any link. The exception to this are images and ABC news articles - just leave them alone.
Then, you're left with https://youtu.be/HLUX0y4EptA, which GoCubsGo says is because you use an app rather than a browser. As in my post above, you then remove https://youtu.be/ in order to be left with the code for posting to BRD.
However, again:
Also again:Vrede too wrote: ↑Sun Feb 11, 2024 9:12 pm... However, as happened to me with this vid you sometimes you will get a black screen saying "Video unavailable". Won't do you any good with this vid, though. You're doomed to that black screen saying "Video unavailable". All you can do is link to YouTube and your original url works as good for that as anything.Vrede too wrote: ↑Sun Feb 11, 2024 9:12 pmAgain, if you're jammed up:Vrede too wrote: ↑Sun Feb 11, 2024 7:34 am... Re: YouTube
Haven't looked at the video, but that may be an age restriction thing where YouTube wants to verify you're over 18 which it can't do through a third party link.
