Asshole Robinson for NC Gov?

Unread post by Vrede too »

So much to trash over the next few months, maybe merits his own thread. Dr Oz? Herschel Walker? Robinson will become the new standard for Dolt .45 failures.
GOP pick for N.C. governor downplayed Weinstein allegations, assault by Ray Rice

Mark Robinson, the firebrand Republican nominee for governor in North Carolina, has for years made comments downplaying and making light of sexual assault and domestic violence.
"firebrand" = wingnut
A review of Robinson’s social media posts over the past decade shows that he frequently questioned the credibility of women who aired allegations of sexual assault against prominent men, including Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein, actor Bill Cosby and now-U.S. Supreme Court Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh. In one post, Robinson, North Carolina’s lieutenant governor, characterized Weinstein and others as “sacrificial lambs” being “slaughtered.”

Robinson also wrote repeatedly of a 2014 domestic violence encounter involving then-NFL star Ray Rice, who was seen on a surveillance video dragging his apparently unconscious fiancée out of an elevator. In a post directed at Rice’s “lady friend,” Robinson suggested the woman was at fault for the physical altercation.
:puke-left:
... Robinson has drawn scrutiny for his incendiary remarks on other issues, including about LGBTQ+ people, religion and other political figures. But his comments on domestic violence and sexual assault stand out for their tone and frequency, as well as Robinson’s repeated questioning of accusers.

While Robinson is, in some ways, emblematic of the Republican Party’s turn under Donald Trump toward rewarding inflammatory, sexist language, his dismissals of women threaten to test Robinson’s appeal with voters troubled by that history, in particular female voters....
The ads write themselves. For example:

Image
... In his 2020 campaign for his current position and this year’s race for governor, Robinson has refused to apologize when asked about controversial public comments. Last year, he downplayed past comments about Jews as having been “poorly worded.” Among other things, Robinson has minimized Nazi atrocities in Facebook posts.

Trump and other Republicans have embraced his rhetorical style. Trump endorsed Robinson during his primary for governor, calling him “Martin Luther King on steroids.”

Trump, who has been working to chip away at Biden’s advantage with Black voters, included Robinson in a Black Americans for Trump coalition that Trump announced Saturday.
Maybe the DNC should tie TRE45QN to Robinson in NC and nationally.
... Robinson has been open about growing up in a violent household. His official biography page says his father “was an alcoholic who routinely abused his mother.”

During the mid-2010s, Robinson made comments on his Facebook page that downplayed or otherwise made light of domestic violence against women....
:wtf: He learned nothing from his own parents.

Image

:headscratch:  "Domestic" refers to the relationship, not the locale. Moron.
... Robinson won nearly 65 percent of the (GQP primary) vote.
:obscene-birdiered:
... In 2018 and 2019, Robinson posted memes appearing to mock the allegations by California professor Christine Blasey Ford, who accused Kavanaugh of sexual assault and testified before Congress.

One of his posts appeared to suggest that Blasey Ford’s allegations were fake, along with “those women who accused Roy Moore.” Moore, a Republican nominee for U.S. Senate in Alabama, was accused of sexual assault or questionable behavior by at least eight women — including one who alleged that Moore initiated a sexual encounter when she was 14 and he was 32. Moore has long denied the allegations.

Robinson similarly shared memes mocking actress Ashley Judd, who accused Weinstein of sexual assault. And he repeatedly suggested that the sexual harassment claims brought against male public figures was the result of a broader conspiracy, claiming, among other outlandish theories, that the Illuminati were involved in publicizing accusations against Cosby.
... An April poll from Mason-Dixon Polling & Strategy found Stein and Robinson were in a tight race, with Stein receiving support from 47 percent of registered voters in the state and Robinson getting 45 percent. The result was within the poll’s margin of error. Stein led Robinson among female voters, 52 percent to 40 percent.
:problem:

Quinnipiac 4/4 - 4/8 1401 RV moe 2.6
Stein (D) 48
Robinson (R) 41
Ross (L) 4
Turner (G) 2
Stein +7

The survey also found Trump had 49 percent in the presidential race and Biden 43 percent. Female voters were more divided than in the governor’s race, with 47 percent backing Biden and 44 percent supporting Trump, which was within the poll’s margin of error.
What is wrong with female MAGAts?
The state is crucial for Biden, whose campaign is targeting it as a pickup opportunity after narrowly losing it in 2020. Biden’s advisers believe Robinson will be a key motivator for Democrats to turn out in North Carolina, along with the state’s ban last year on abortion after 12 weeks of pregnancy in most cases.

:---P
... Quinnipiac University polling analyst Tim Malloy said the Robinson-Stein matchup is “close enough for Stein to keep his foot on the pedal” — and suggested Robinson’s controversial comments may not hurt him as much as some think. Quinnipiac also polled the race in April and found Stein led Robinson by single digits.

“We live in an age of political bombast,” Malloy wrote in an email. “What was once wholly unacceptable to say on the campaign trail, in a bar or at the dining room table is accepted as undisputed fact and not necessarily considered offensive. Robinson has a lot of support. Clearly some North Carolinians have found a voice in his voice.”

Ad campaign features Black voters speaking out against NC’s Mark Robinson. Here’s why

Months before North Carolina’s November general election, a progressive political interest group attempted to appeal directly to Black voters in North Carolina in an advertising campaign against Republican gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson.

In a June 16 ad released by Raleigh-based Progress North Carolina Action, Martin Luther King III, the son of legendary civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., says, “Nothing is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity,” in describing his opposition to Robinson’s attacks against his father.

Robinson, who was elected the first Black lieutenant governor in 2020, suggested Martin Luther King Jr. was a communist and said the civil rights movement comprised “free choice” and that “so many freedoms were lost.”

Mark Robinson’s support among Black NC voters

A Meredith Poll released in February, a month before the statewide primary election, showed that just 3% of likely Black voters would for Robinson over Stein in the general election.

A Carolina Journal poll found that just 14% of Black voters say they would definitely or probably vote for Robinson in November.

In a March WRAL News poll, just 13% of Black voters said they have a very or somewhat favorable view of Robinson, and 45% of Black voters said Robinson’s statements about women, LGBTQ+ people, and the Jewish community make them less likely to vote for him, the Observer previously reported.

Latest poll gives Stein a double-digit lead over Robinson in NC’s governor’s race

... A new High Point University/SurveyUSA Poll shows Attorney General Josh Stein, the Democratic nominee for governor, leading Republican Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson by 14 percentage points in North Carolina’s closely watched governor’s race.

The online poll of more than 1,000 North Carolina registered voters found 48% favored Stein and 34% supporting Robinson. Eighteen percent say they remain undecided.

The High Point Poll comes roughly a week after a New York Times/Sienna College poll showed Stein leading Robinson 49-39 percent.
:happy-cheerleaderkid: GoJoshGo!
While Harris’ entry into the presidential race has helped bring new excitement to the Democratic ticket — the poll found that she has now pulled slightly ahead of former President Donald Trump among North Carolina voters 46%-45% — Robinson has faced questions in recent weeks about a nonprofit led by his wife that was cited for inaccurate reimbursement claims....

The Republican gubernatorial nominee has also found himself repeatedly trying to explain comments delivered to a North Carolina church audience on Sunday, June 30 that “some folks need killing.”

This week Robinson was asked about the comment again even as he rolled out his public safety plan.

With the new school year starting, Lt. Gov. Robinson has also faced questions about remarks made during a July event that he would opt the state out of federal education funds in an effort to reduce bureaucracy. The remarks were first reported by WRAL.

North Carolina receives more than $1.6 billion dollars in federal funding.

Justin Parmenter, a veteran Charlotte middle school teacher, told reporters on Thursday that would cripple public schools....
Opps, pooor Mark.
Mark Robinson's Chances vs Josh Stein in North Carolina, According to Polls

... The poll, conducted by Carolina Forward, shows Stein receiving 46 percent of the vote, while Robinson gets 36 percent....
:happy-cheerleaderkid: GoJoshGo!
(Gov) Cooper has been critical of Robinson, the Republican nominee, describing him as "the most extreme statewide candidate in the country right now," in an interview with Politico in early August....

Robinson has generated criticism for his controversial views on social issues.

He once described LGTBQ+ topics as "filth," in 2021 saying: "There's no reason anybody anywhere in America should be telling any child about transgenderism, homosexuality, any of that filth."

Robinson, who is Black, has also generated criticism for lambasting what he described as the "so-called" Civil Rights Movement and criticizing Martin Luther King Jr., and for suggesting that Black people are not owed reparations for slavery, and in fact owe reparations themselves.

He also once said the movie Black Panther was a ploy for Jewish people to take money from Black people.

When Trump endorsed Robinson in the race, he referred to him as "Martin Luther King on steroids."

The latest poll follows the trend of other recent ones, which show Stein slowly increasing his lead....
Could this tumble in Robinson's polling be called a SkidMark?

This guy is a real piece of work:
"Silly memes": Mark Robinson claimed history of settlers killing Natives was "exaggerated"

North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, a Republican running to be governor of the red-tinted battleground state, often claims mixed-race Native American descent. But that has not stopped the candidate, known for making incendiary remarks that have embarrassed some fellow party members, from casting doubt on the European role in destroying Native American society, condemning sports teams' efforts to get rid of racially insensitive names and passionately defending Christopher Columbus....
 Congrats, Gov Stein!

To think this guy could rise to the level of Lt. Gov. and be, in some eyes, a credible candidate for governor is incredible.

I don't think so. If he was leading, maybe, but if I were in NC I'd want to add to the strongest mandate possible not only in rejection of the repug's ummm, "candidate" but of Dem success. If you want to get me to vote for some fringe person, get us a parliamentary system so that other parties can grow to have some chance.

I get your point about a mandate. However:
Ballot access requirements for political parties in North Carolina

... As of May 2024, North Carolina officially recognized five political parties: the Democratic, Green, Libertarian, Republican, and No Labels parties....
'No Labels' sure fizzled, didn't it? It was thought that it would be a spoiler for Biden, but I wonder if it would have become more of a spoiler for DonOLD. Funny how things work out.
Process for a political party to obtain ballot status

A political party is defined as either of the following:

1. "Any group of voters which, at the last preceding general State election, polled for its candidate for Governor, or for presidential electors, at least two percent (2%) of the entire vote cast in the State for Governor or for presidential electors." For example, in 2012, 4,468,295 votes were cast for governor. For a newly established political party to maintain its recognized status, its candidate for governor would have had to win at least 89,366 votes....
I think it's good to have options. Clearly, our POTUS vote is going to be close. So, that leaves the Governor's race to keep the Greens and Libertarians on future ballots. My vote for either of them is likely more impactful than adding to Stein's landslide will be.

Anyhow, that's all a side issue. "spread Stein +10"

No hope. No money. No chance.
And then take a dump on their political graves.

On a lighter note, the San Diego County Republican party turned in its required financial report showing a negative balance.
And there are at least two repugs running for office who don't mention Trump or MAGA and who don't even make it obvious they're republican. And they're sounding like reasonable people - people you might actually vote for if you didn't know they were going to have to tow the crazy line if they did get elected.
