A common sense bill

Unread post by Jasmine »

CNN — The House voted on Tuesday to pass a GOP-led bill that would ban transgender athletes from women’s and girls’ sports at federally funded schools and educational institutions.

The legislation is expected to next be taken up by the GOP-controlled Senate. The House vote was 218 to 206 with two Democrats voting in favor and one Democrat voting “present.” Reps. Vicente Gonzalez and Henry Cuellar of Texas were the two Democrats who voted for the bill and Rep. Don Davis of North Carolina was the present vote.

Hopefully, this bill becomes law. Biological males have absolutely no place in girls or women’s sports.

Is it "common sense" to obsess about such a tiny minority of student athletes, or is it really just the latest hateful culture war salvo from a political party that's bereft of real ideas to make the lives of all Americans better?

Tiny minority or no, biological males have no business in women’s sports.None whatsoever. But don’t worry: Once this bill becomes law, no one will have to obsess over this again. A wrong will be righted.

I agree with the purpose of the bill, but I think it's way too much obsessing over what isn't much of a problem IRL. Out of all the womens' teams in all the sports, we've had what - a couple or so of troublesome issues? There was the swimmer, the volleyball player, and maybe another track person, but it's not that significant of a problem. FWIW, there have been almost 400 bills filed in a bunch of states restricting such transgender matters as puberty blockers, etc. So I wondered, how many people are we talking about here? That would be .0017 percent of kids who are potentially transgender minors who seek treatment, and even less who actually got gender-confirming treatments. I'll take "latest hateful culture war" for $1,000, Ken.

Are you really that naive? Multiple states and school districts, not to mention hundreds of thousands of tolerant students, will resist. This anti-local freedom, Big Brother move of yours will be fought out in the courts and on school grounds for years. More important than the absolute numbers of trans girls and young women is the massive numbers of gullible cons such as yourself who have been manipulated into thinking that this is an important issue when it will affect almost no one. Seriously, find something more rational and useful to your fellow Americans to obsess over, lesbian M&Ms for example.

Btw, did you know that about one third of cartoon female superheroes are trans? Nttawwt. :P

Enacting the law now will prevent an “insignificant” problem from growing. In fact, it should eliminate the problem altogether.

No more men showering in women’s locker rooms. No more men potentially causing physical harm to women. No more men stealing scholarships from women.

No "men" are doing that now. Trans women attacking women is a myth, nearly nonexistent. Otoh, Trans women and men being attacked and killed by your allies is an all too common reality, especially since the GQP launched its hateful culture war. Admit it, this is about YOUR bigotry, not student safety. Your team is the danger.

Vrede, you also went from “ a tiny minority of student athletes” to “no ‘men’ are doing that now.” Which is it?

How dare you add sanity to this subject. I find it strange that all the "fairness" warriors do not support this bill.

A tiny minority of student athletes are trans women, duh. Men are not "showering in women’s locker rooms." Trans women are not "causing physical harm to women." No men are "stealing scholarships from women." That said, if athletic associations wish to define what degree of transition is sufficient, I'm okay with that. It should be more than just putting on a sports bra and dress. I definitely don't cede these complex matters of psychology, biology, and athletic and educational policy to a gang of congressional haters seeking to please the most obsessive, extreme and ignorant elements of their party.

Now, about the massive amount of actual violence perpetrated by your bigoted team? You both do care about "physical harm to" students, right?

Btw, Jasmine, I like the rainbow background you created for your avatar, nttawwt. ;)

The wingnuts abhor just about anything having to do with "trans." They hate transparency. They hate transportation unless it's internal combustion powered transportation. They hate any sort of transfer of wealth unless it's a transfer from the bottom to the top. And they all hope that their latest lunacy will not be transitory. Hell, I bet they even have intense revulsion toward any Vietnamese person named Tran. fish slap

Hell, they're all scared shitless over being in a period of transition and want to end it as soon as possible so that the full throttle big bore insanity proper can begin.

I think way too much time is spent in legislatures over largely made-up issues, including trans people in sports. Nevertheless, I don't think people like the volleyball player and the swimmer should be allowed to compete in womens' leagues. Not because they're trans - but because they have an artificially created physical advantage, no different in principle from steroid use. If the trans volleyball player were 5'6" 135, probably nobody would even have ever noticed. Or she may not even have made the team. The (former) guy on the team dominated because of his size and strength, which was largely developed during her guy days.

Your point of aligning this to steroids is on target. It is not so much about trans as it is about the physical makeup of males is so different from females.

You say "no so much about trans" and for sake of discussion I'll believe you, but I garon-tee for the majority of those pushing this issue, it's all about the trans.

I can't speak for others. As for me, I have no debate with those who choose "trans" if they are mature and capable enough to make that decision.
