'Jagoff' Hegseth

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

'Jagoff' Hegseth

Unread post by Vrede too »

With the confirmation looking more likely and such a great nickname dropped in our laps I figured it's time for his own thread. The wholly unqualified party boy should give us a lot to write about.

Pete Hegseth Hearing Causes 'Jagoff' To Trend On Social Media
Although the term could refer to a judge advocate general — a military lawyer — it can also mean "a person with an unfavorable personality or annoying habits."

That’s either really stupid or just plain dishonest.

I don’t mind restoring the Fort Bragg name, but at least be honest about your reasoning.
Honesty?

From trump or his merry band of trumpaloons and you're OK honoring a slaver?

I’m perfectly fine with it. I’ve never been one of those people who want to cover up history, warts and all. It’s like trying to get rid of the confederate flag. It’s silly.

That slaver/traitor lover whine again  ? There will always be sufficient "history" in books and museums, and it's NOT covering up history to cease honoring its hateful and incompetent scoundrels. Most of the monuments, base names and slaver/traitor flag-flying originated in the KKK's historical revisionism of whitewashing Confederate hate and cruelty, and in defending Jim Crow. All we are doing is correcting those errors.
The Lost Cause of the Confederacy, known simply as the Lost Cause, is an American pseudohistorical and historical negationist myth that argues the cause of the Confederate States during the American Civil War was just, heroic, and not centered on slavery. First enunciated in 1866, it has continued to influence racism, gender roles, and religious attitudes in the Southern United States into the 21st century....

My take is, it’s the slippery slope thing.

Washington owned slaves. Should we tear down statues of him? Should we remove his likeness from our currency?

I agree we should teach history. But we should teach it objectively and let everyone form their own opinions.

Agree on the slippery slope, but he nor Jefferson was a proponent of slavery.

They also didn't go to war against their country causing the largest loss of American life in any war to enshrine it.

Good points. But, again, I am not the “canceling” type. I believe all history - good and bad - should not be disregarded. That’s just me, though.

No one's disregarding it.

But why glorify it and honor it like it is something to be emulated?

It's an honorific to have an army base named after you. That is not something we should be doing.

Yeah, nobody is wholesale deleting history from history books, documentaries, and so forth. Nobody is preventing anyone from learning about history. Nobody is even preventing people from flying that rag of a flag the heritage not hate people like to slobber over. History was never being deleted.

This is the United States. The Confederacy was an enemy of the United States. The Confederacy was defeated by the United States. Why should the US honor its enemy? An enemy that fought against the US Army no less? So we should name a US army base after a guy that fought against US soldiers? How hard is that to understand?

Very good logic.
What Whack9, GoCubsGo and Ron Filipkowski say, you White southern, "logic"-challenged, slaver/traitor lover.

 Again, it's not disregarding history to cease HONORING one of the WORST generals in the Civil War - Jeff Davis had to fire him - and who led an undistinguished, failure-prone post war life. The base was named in 1918, significantly near the peak of the KKK resurgence :puke-left: . Name one other country that names its military bases after the treasonous LOSERS. Are there Hitler, Hess and Goebbels bases in Germany? How about a Pol Pot base in Kampuchea or a Somoza Base in Nicaragua?

As GoCubsGo says, Washington is not honored BECAUSE he was a slaver, and he never was a traitor to America. Gen Bragg had the base named after him solely BECAUSE he was a slaver/traitor, despite not being very good at it.

I wonder if Dinesh really thinks they don’t like Confederate generals.
Weak. Sad. Imagine loving America so little that your BIGGEST idea is honoring LOSERS just to “own the libs.” Rename them after REAL heroes—Union generals, civil rights leaders, Medal of Honor recipients. That would REALLY piss off the MAGA crowd.
That is what's been done. Thank you, Barack and Joltin' Joe.
We could out the politicians simply by proposing a bill that bans the swastika in certain spaces. The fascists will squeal like pigs
Thus spake another maga felon.
For the past 40 years the only issue they can run on are culture wars which has brought us to the culmination of this nightmare playing out now. They never consider what might be good for the country as a whole.
That is exactly right. The ultra right is expert at buzzwords.
Yeah hilarious Dinesh. Not to mention the irony that the same confederates wouldn’t see you as a fucking person….what a fucking useless tool
But that statement by D'Souza describes very accurately why MAGAs would be willing to destroy our entire society. They're willing to die of preventable disease, lose their jobs, be poor, watch their children get sick and die, and destroy the financial system, for the sole reason of owning the left.

Trump Wants Denuclearization Talks with Russia, China, Aims to Halve US Military Budget

President Donald Trump announced today he wants to restart denuclearization talks with Russia and China.

In a press conference at the White House Thursday, Trump told reporters that he wanted China, Russia and the United States to dramatically cut back their defense spending once the wars in Ukraine and Gaza had settled.
So, never?
"When we straighten it all out, then I want to one of the first meetings I want to have is with President Xi of China, President Putin of Russia. And I want to say, let's cut our military budget in half," Trump told reporters at the White House.
Does he actually have a plan or is this just the wistful mutterings of a doddering old fool? If the former, I wish him luck.
The announcement is a dramatic about-turn for a Republican president.

For decades, the Republicans have supported bigger and bigger military spending and defense posturing.
As I've been saying. They and the lobbyists they're beholden to will pitch a fit.

It's hard to imagine that DonOLD is serious about this radical transformation when he picked someone as inexperienced, unqualified and generally unpleasant as 'Jagoff' Hegseth to oversee it. I won't hold my breath.
