Dunno. Should we give the otherwise valuable members a pass for walking past a drowning man even when there's a life preserver hanging nearby?

I consider voting as a privilege and a responsibility. It is a personal choice which is their right as a citizen. Some folks are just too damn lazy.Vrede too wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2026 11:45 amGood points. But why aren't these people voting at least occasionally? And if they are voting for what we have in office, then the article is bs. Those people described are not trumpers or MAGA sorts or right wing fascists. If they don't care that their own neighbors are being hauled off from the school pick up queue, maybe they're not so nice after all.

Re: 2026 Elections
I wish we had the type of voting system Australia has; universal. Every resident (citizen) is given a ballot. It's required by law that everyone vote. In every election there is an option for choosing "none of the above." trump would go crazy over this sort of thing if he weren't already.Vrede too wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2026 11:45 amGood points. It would not be a language quibble to say that in the US voting is not a privilege, but a right. Some may think it's a privilege to live in the US where voting is a right, but not necessarily those whose rights are under constant attack.supesalemgr2 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2026 1:28 pm

No, neither group should skate.
Did you ever wonder what you'd have done during the rise of fascism? You're doing it right now.

Now there's her long time security member that uses aliases, a fugitive that was shot by law enforcement.

American voters aren't the brightest. However, gas prices are one of those things that they tend to pay close attention to and there's a very clear and direct causality between the Iran war and the sudden spike in prices that even our dipshit electorate can see. I think that's why that boy in the white house seems to be flailing around trying to do something, even going as far as appealing to China

As long as democrats have this arrogant attitude toward voters they will struggle to win elections.Whack9 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 16, 2026 7:43 amAmerican voters aren't the brightest. Because appealing to the lowest common denominator has worked out so well for the country.supesalemgr2 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 16, 2026 10:42 am

Wonder why he's so skeered, the current system got him elected.
Probably because of the massive buyers remorse that's a coming,

Hell, Dems may never win an election again. Except when then they're running against each other, of course.

Re: 2026 Elections
Have you not interacted with people before? Choose a handful of people off the street and ask them to name the three branches of government and what they're responsible for and you'll likely end up with plenty of blank stares. Every election we're plagued with pathetic voter turnout. I think something like 1 in 5 Americans are functionally illiterate.supesalemgr2 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 16, 2026 11:40 amKeep it up. I do not disagree we have failed to maintain good civics education in our country. However, folks don't take to being called out for their shortcomings.Whack9 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 16, 2026 12:34 pmHave you not interacted with people before? Re: 2026 Elections
I sort of agree with you to a certain extent. Most people aren't going to treat others poorly in real life because of political views. Now, obviously there's a limit to that. I'm not going to be kind and respectful to someone that's a self professed neo-nazi, but in general most people will treat others with respect, and that's an important first step in trying to convince someone of their errors.supesalemgr2 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 16, 2026 12:43 pmI do not disagree we have failed to maintain good civics education in our country. Yes, like you pointed out, many people are completely unwilling to question their beliefs and hostile to having those beliefs and shortcomings challenged. I think that's a major failing of the "us vs them, my team vs yours" culture that's pervaded American political discourse over the last 20-30 years. That's a major failing on a personal level as well.
It's also arrogant to be steadfast and proud of one's ignorance.
