2025 elections

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Despite all the whoopdedoo about a closer race in Tennessee, I hope I'm wrong in predicting a big margin win by the repug. No offence, neoplacebo, but people in that gerrymandered district didn't get smarter or learn to read overnight. If Trump was satisfactory by 20-30 points in 24, they've already seen all his wets and don't care. They know he's corrupt, a constant liar, insulter of the military, women, the disabled, and that his policies and actions hurt them personally. And mostly don't care enough to not vote for him.
Yeah, hope for the best but expect reality.
We're not just talking about MAGAts changing their stripes, but also about the independents who went with DonOLD last year due to discontent with the Dems. I'll go out on a limb and predict that the result will be closer to the 2 point poll margin than to Dementia Don's 22 point margin.
I think I'm only one of twelve thousand Independents in this state. Everyone else is in the cult. I expect to be deleted from the voter rolls in Sullivan County before this time next year or be forced to travel twenty miles with my papers and prove my worth. They probably won't dig what I have to tell them.

Oh, she'll outperform Kamala, but a single digit loss is still a loss. There's no moral victories.

True, but there are indicators for 2026 and that is what's important.

Out performing Kamala is not a very high standard.

You might want to set your sights lower than TN7 then. But, we'll see . . . Dems are scared and angry, while RepuQs are disillusioned and leopards are munching their faces.

... She campaigned as a proud Democrat despite the race being officially nonpartisan and beat Trump-backed candidate Emilio Gonzalez, a former city manager, who said he called Higgins to congratulate her.

... With nearly all votes counted Tuesday, Higgins led the Republican by about 19 percentage points.
:---P
The local race is not predictive of what may happen at the polls next year. But it drew attention from the two major national political parties and their leaders. The victory provides Democrats with some momentum heading into a high-stakes midterm election when the GOP is looking to keep its grip in Florida, including in a (Cuban) Hispanic-majority district in Miami-Dade County. The area has shifted increasingly rightward politically in recent years, and the city may become the home of Trump’s presidential library....
NYC won't have it.
Republicans’ anxiety grows

Republicans in Florida have found strong support from voters with heritage from Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua, because they likened some members of the Democratic party’s progressive wing with politicians from the governments they fled. Trump and other GOP members have tapped into those sentiments over the past eight years....

“The Hispanic vote is not guaranteed,” (FL U.S. Rep. Maria Elvira) Salazar said in a video posted on X last month. “Hispanics married President Trump, but they are only dating the GOP.” ...

Fox News Host Spirals as Trump Candidate Loses in Stunning GOP Defeat

Has White supremacist MAGA broken the back of knee-jerk Cuban-American adherence to the GQP?
... “Some of them are misreading the aggressive tactics of ICE and taking it on the whole Hispanic community,” he said Monday. “They feel as though they’ve been too broadly targeted. And that’s why the president’s numbers are coming down with Hispanics.”
 Maybe it's also because pretentious and patronizing White Faux Noise hosts call it "misreading".

Eileen Higgins's win in Miami is the latest stinging rebuke to Republicans.
:happy-cheerleaderkid:
... The Miami race marks only the latest defeat for the GOP in a spate of separate races across the country. On the same day, Democrats continued their victorious run by flipping a Georgia state House seat....

TIL: NJ Gov Mikie Sherrill (D) "was among the flight school graduates in the first class of women eligible for direct assignment to fly combat aircraft. Sherrill graduated from the Naval Academy in 1994.

"... and became a U.S. Navy helicopter pilot, flying the H-3 Sea King."

She was an irl Meg Ryan in Courage Under Fire (great film!) at about the same time it came out.

BADASSS.
