Iran War

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

2 days ago the Wal Mart gas station sign said $3.69 and as far as I know, TN has not suspended its tax on gas. I doubt they will since we have no state income tax. Tax on non food items is 9.5% but I don't know what the state gas tax rate is.
Three (now) days ago it was $3.69 at the station down the street. $3.77 isn't much more. I've always known it will go a lot higher before it starts coming down. Anyway, I no longer drive or buy gas. Got rid of my sports car and pay a neighber a hundred bucks a month to take me to the store every other day for a month.

Did you ever wonder what you'd have done during the rise of fascism? You're doing it right now.

 You could say that.....my vision has gotten worse the last couple years. My license has expired and I doubt I could pass the vision test. Not to mention I find it increasingly difficult to get in and out of the damn thing. Actually, I've not driven at night in over fifteen years. Anyway, I've had that car since December 06. It had 62,000 miles when I got it. It even smelled new inside and looked new under the hood. After almost twenty years (longer than I've had any one car) it had 198,000 miles. It was fun while it lasted, though. And 198,000 on a 27 year old car is still low mileage.

Oh man, I'm sorry. I know you must have loved that car. Hopefully found her a good home.

It's weird....first time I've been without a car in over fifty years. But a young guy who seemed to be late 20's or early 30's got it. Gave him all the service records I had in a folder, most of them from GM dealerships. I was in my early 50's when I got the car. It's been really fun, but expensive...uses high octane gas, has high performance tieres, etc. And for the past nine years or so I've only driven it to the store or the bank; it's not been on the interstate since forever and it needs to be blown out now and then. Hell, that's what it's for. :D

That's compassionate and brave of you to give it a better home than you can provide. ;)

I can imagine the selling point - Mostly been driven by a little old man to the store and bank. :P

Seen elsewhere: What's the difference between the Vietnam War and the Iran War? Answer: Trump had a plan to get out of Vietnam.

 I just hope he doesn't get carried away. I remember when I first got that car. I bought it from a guy who lived in Johnson City. At the time I still lived in NC so the seller and I met in Erwin TN and I drove the car and said I'll take it. Then once I went and got a bank check for $10,700 and had another guy from work take me up to meet him and get the car. I remember going back to NC from Johnson City and just getting a feel for the thing. It's the first high performance car I ever had. But I do remember thinking at one point on the way back as I was going close to 90 that "I might get killed in this thing."

I sure couldn't say I'd only driven it to church on Sundays.

Way better to find her a good home now instead of letting her sit in a barn for 20 years to be found all rusty, dusty and chicken poop covered by some car scavenger.

You still shopping for a Sunday car?

"Shopping" might be a little much, but I'm interested and browsing in case a good opportunity comes up. The browsing is fun, though. Surprisingly, MG-TD's are way more affordable than I would have thought, and usable BMW 2002's are ridiculously overpriced. Who knows, it may come to something, or not.

Yeah, they guy seemed to be glad to get it. When I bought that car, I was considering it or a Mercury Marauder, black. The Z28 guy wanted 13K; I offered him 10K. We settled on 10.7K. The guy with the Mercury would not move on his price.

For a long time I was friends with the son of the local Plymouth Chrysler dealer. They later opened a Jaguar/Saab dealership in the early 80's. Anyway, the friends' older brother had a Triumph TR-8 in the British racing green color. I always liked the TR-6 but never got to ride in the TR-8 but I'd say it was a hell of a thing having a V8 engine in such a compact car. No idea if the guy still has it or even is he's still alive. edit: just searched his name; no obituary.

I never was in an 8-cylinder Triumph, but I'm not so sure it would be all that great. When they stuffed an Austin Healey 6 into an MG-B and called it an MGC, it was awful. Too much front weight, wouldn't corner, poorly balanced. Sometimes just because you can doesn't mean you should.

billie.pilgrim chose to not have an obituary. That made our sleuthing more difficult.

That's pretty incredible.

But not surprising.

Did Moron Don organize this so he has an excuse to
TACO?
