The Music Thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Where music came from can be interesting. If you haven’t watched this you should. Watch a few Alabama country boys influence rock and roll. It was on prime, but for those too skeert to show your credit card, watch here.

Thanks! Among other things I learned, I didn't know Billy Powell was a roadie and nobody knew he played piano. Somewhat on topic, I seem to remember that there were three songs in particular that started country music's infusion into rock - "Teach Your Children," "Rose Garden" and "Country Roads." The singers didn't have whiny nasal voices, but those were definitely country songs. After that there was a much fuzzier line between country and pop. My perception anyway.

I take some comfort in knowing she dislikes Marsha nearly as much as I do. I also take comfort in knowing she can exert a hell of a lot more pressure on that crazy bitch than I can.

Jury says Ed Sheeran didn't steal music from Marvin Gaye.
British pop star Ed Sheeran is not liable in a copyright infringement lawsuit that accused him of taking parts of the melody of Marvin Gaye’s soul classic “Let’s Get It On” in his own hit “Thinking Out Loud,” a jury decided Thursday.

The jury reached a unanimous verdict, a requirement in the case, after just under three hours of deliberations.

Sheeran stood up and hugged his lawyers when the verdict was read, with his wife, Cherry Seaborn, and his “Thinking Out Loud” co-writer, Amy Wadge, in tears.

Jurors said that Sheeran independently created the song, trumping every other decision they had to make in determining whether he had violated copyrights.

Speaking outside the courthouse, Sheeran said: "I'm obviously very happy with the outcome of the case, and it looks like I'm not having to retire from my day job, after all."

He said that at the same time he felt "frustrated" by the "baseless claims." He praised the jury's decision, noting it will allow songwriters to continue to have artistic freedom.

Since nobody's brought it up, yesterday was the day 53 years ago that Ohio National Guard troops shot and killed four students at Kent State University who were protesting the Vietnam war.

Thanks for the reminder, excellent montage. I was part of a 10th anniversary outdoor interpretive reenactment at the University of Montana.

Hey, Cuba, today, and even right now, I'm listening to a CD The Freddy Jones Band "North Ave Wake Up Call" and I was flippong throuth the insert and there's two photos of a road sign that says "Illinois" at the rop and the number 64 under it. I was just wondering if you've ever heard these guys and or if that road goes through your area of opereations. Anyway, if you've not heard them, there's some damn good songs on this. Oh, the copyright date on the insert says 1995. I know I've had this for over twenty years but don't remember how or why I have it.

Looks like I called you "Cuba" instead of "Cubs." So I guess now it's GoCubaGo. I was trying to organize the hundreds of cd's I've accumulated and came across this one and decided to listen again. Here's a little info about them. Seems like they're in your neighborhood. If you've not done so, check out some of the songs on this.
